How to combat water retention?
I was up 38 lbs at 32 weeks.
This past week I gained 5 lbs! I'm pretty sure it's a lot of water weight but I really only wanted to gain about 7 more until the end and now that seems impossible.
What can I do to combat water retention during this heat? I'm not eating a lot of salty or processed foods and I'm drinking tons of water. What else can I do??

Your body does what it needs to do. Stop focusing on the scale, and just let your body grow a baby. You can worry about your weight after you give birth.
Also, many people don't gain at the end, so you never know.

Re: How to combat water retention?
Do you feel bloated or swollen? Are your ankles and feet swollen? Hands? I was swelling like you would not believe at the end and nothing helped. I drank 100 oz of water a day, I avoided sodium as much as I could, I elevated my feet, I iced them. At the end of the day it was more the baby laying on a blood vessel and causing fluids to pool. Nothing helped except giving birth!

This is my 3rd pregnancy (4th child) so I'm very familiar with what my body needs to do/gain but I have never had such significant weight gain in such a short period of time. I gained 47 lbs with my 1st pregnancy and 42 lbs with twins. During both of my last 2 pregnancies I gained about 1.5-2 lbs/week during this time.

Re: How to combat water retention?
I'm in the same boat! I'm up 29-30lbs as of today at 31 weeks. My feet have been swollen on and off over the last few weeks. I have been drinking a ton of water, avoiding salt wherever I can and yet it is just not enough. This is my 3rd time pregnant in the summer and I never had swelling with the others.

Definitely call your doctor. Hopefully it is just from the heat, I know I always swell in the heat no matter how much water I drink.

What is it with people lately and their snotty responses?
Hayley, you are doing so well. In addition to drinking water have you tried eating melon? That would probably help a lot
