Results of nt scan.
Well I finally got the results. Combined with blood work. and scan I have 1:5 chance of downs. To say I'm devastated is an understatement. I just don't understand it. I'm only 32 years old and there is no family history of this at all.
I just can't stop crying.

Results of nt scan.
While I'm sure it's so difficult to cope and I send hugs and prayers your way- deep down you will love your child for who they are. He/she will be beautiful and contribute something amazing to the world. Having a child with a disability while it may add stress or additional expenses or challenges does not mean life if over. If the baby is born with down syndrome it's OK to grieve but keep in mind this baby will add so much love and happiness to your life! ! Hugs to you! :)

Exactly, 1/5 is still only a 20% chance! When you're talking about anything else in life, an 80% chance of a "good" outcome is usually considered pretty good. And I really agree, no matter what, this baby will be a blessing and absolutely add so much love and happiness. DS isn't the same as it was years ago, most DS children are mainstream schooled, I know they were in my HS (and that was 14+ years ago). It's not easy, and there's no way that I could understand what you are feeling, but I'm sure that everything will be wonderful in the end.

I know its hard and I would be a wreck too but the test is saying there is an 80% chance your baby will not have downs. I highly recommend doing the verifi test. Its a simple blood test and is supposed to be 99.9% accurate for downs. We got results back in just over a week. It might give you some more peace of mind

I completely agree with both of these responses. First off, you are still most likely to have a child without down syndrome. Second, if it turns out they do then you learn to adjust. Children with down syndrome are beautiful, happy, loving children who often have a huge positive impact on the people in their lives. I know it's not easy, but try not to get too worked up until you have more conclusive results assuming you're getting further testing done. 80% chance the baby will not have it but the other 20% chance is just a different blessing than you expected.

ITA with all of this! Many prayers and positive thoughts for you, your DH, and your LO. A close friend recently had a baby with Down Syndrome, and her initial feelings of shock and fear were quickly replaced with love and acceptance- her LO is a joy!

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I would definitely do whatever tests are out there to figure out what is going on. Did your OB give you some options for next steps?

I am praying for you!! Like many have said.. You still have more of a chance not having a child with downs than with. Hold on to hope. What's the next step? Another sono to remeasure? Take it one day at a time.
At my 20 week sono, they found many areas in my DS's brain that indicated hydrocephalus and they prepared us for the worst. A week later, they rescanned and everything was normal. You never really know how things turn out and none of these tests are truly accurate.
I have you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers!!!
