I would not use your day from the ship to travel to and from Disney in one day. We did it. We were only able to do 4 rides. It was a complete and total waste of money. Universal is closer to the ports if you want to do a theme park.

How long will you have in the parks (which park will you go to and when are you going)? You can do it, and do a lot more than 4 rides but it will take planning. Now you can FP in advance 3 rides and add to that from there in advance. As long as you have your tickets you can reserve 30 days in advance. I would not expect to do even 1/2 of the MK that day. Just understand that you will not have that much time, and be ok with doing whatever you get to see especially since it will be limited. It works best for those who go more often and just want a little fix, than for the person who will have one trip or only 2 in their lifetime.

Totally new plan: norweigen breakaway
The Breakaway looks so fun!!
Like the others said, I probably wouldn't waste the day at Disney. By the time you get there (way past park opening) the lines will be so long, you won't get to see anything other than a few things, and it will be a waste of the hundreds of dollars you spent to go.

I am sure you will have an amazing trip!
We did Disney for a day from the cruiseport. When we went maybe 1.5 years ago... we were very limited in what we could see in the short time there. I think with being able to prebook fast passes, and a little planning you'll be better off though. Please let us know after your trip how you liked it :)

Totally new plan: norweigen breakaway
We just came back from a cruise on the breakaway in May. It was Me, DH, DS (2) FIL, MIL, SIL and BIL. Everyone had a great time. There was a ton for kids to do on the ship so I am sure your DS will really enjoy it.

Re: Totally new plan: norweigen breakaway
we did the breakaway in December. it was kind of a last minute thing because they were doing the kid sail free thing so we figured go for it! you can probably search and find my reviews we had a fun time. the ship is nice and new and clean, staff was nice. food was good. DS had just turned 3 and there was a bunch of stuff to keep him busy on the ship. splash area by the pool, mini golf, and "mini" ropes course for the younger kids that was under the regular ropes course. they also had the drop- off kids program which he refused to stay in
food was good, and we liked both the shows they had on board- especially the "Burn the Floor" one. lots of good bars, etc. the one thing I can say is that bc its their biggest ship there are a lot of passengers, and it can feel really crowded- especially like up at the buffet at meal times, or for certain activities. it didn't ruin the trip for us by any means-- but just something to be aware of. I'm sure you'll have an awesome time!!

Re: Totally new plan: norweigen breakaway
We went on the breakaway in April. It was rainy, windy and cold.
The ship itself was great. Don't pay extra for mid ship. There aren't any mid ship elevators. We were on the 13th or 14th floor forward, and it was great. one flight up and we were on deck.
If you do go to Disney, make sure you buy your tickets through Norwegian. If for some reason, you dock late, they will refund your money. If you buy through anywhere else you are outta luck.
In the morning and lunch there is a smaller buffet in the Moreno. It was great. Quiet and hardly anyone there.
If you can go to the steak place for dinner, highly recommend. It was great.
Also recommend getting off the ship at 7:30am. If you can carry your own bags off, it's the way to go. We were home by 10am.
The last few days of the trip was rainy so the ship seemed hot and crowded.
All and all we had a good time.
