Mom over 35
Hi All,
I have done some searching but couldn't find anything on the subject, although I am sure I searched too broadly.
Anywho, what is the time frame I can expect? I called and made an appt for bloodwork and that is 6/02 so I'll be about 7 weeks.
When does all the testing start? My friend told me that they are able to determine alot through bloodwork now.

Re: Mom over 35
I was pregnant with my DD at 32 and my DS at 37. I didn't opt for any other testing outside of the normal, required pregnancy work-up.
I had my Ultra Screen at 12 weeks and the Level II around 18 weeks. That's about it aside from regular sonos and some bloodwork. I didn't do any genetic counseling, amnios, etc. My other tests came back great so I saw no need.
Both kids were born perfect and healthy.

They'll confirm by bloodwork at 7 weeks. A sono at about 8 weeks. They may offer some blood tests (maternit21, verify, etc) to rule out downs syndrome etc instead of an amnio.

Re: Mom over 35
I'm 38, and I just found out there's an new test that is less invasive than having an amnio to determine:
Trisomy 13, 18, 21 and Downs Syndrome, as well as determining the sex of the baby. It's done between week 10 and 11 of gestation. The one I'm taking Friday is called "Verifi". Some others on this MB have done it, and the accuracy has been 100% so far!
Good Luck

Mom over 35
I just had my daughter at 37 and I did not have any additional tests performed during my pregnancy. I had genetic trying done prior to TTC but that was based on ethnicity more then age.

Re: Mom over 35
I got pregnant at 38. Had bloodwork and sono done at 9 weeks to confirm and level 2 at 20 weeks. We also had another type of sono done at 22 weeks and the MaterniTI21 because baby had a marker for Down's syndrome.

Re: Mom over 35
The only thing different with this pregnancy (I'm 36 now) is that I was offered the Verifi test. Everything else test-wise and checkup-wise has been exactly the same as when I was pregnant with DS at age 32.

Re: Mom over 35
I'm 35 with this pregnancy (30 with my last) and opted to do the Maternit21 at 12 weeks test to test for Trisomy 13, 18, and 21 as well as a host of other potential issues.
My test came back POSITIVE for T13. I had the amnio done 4 weeks after the result of the test AND had to wait 2 weeks for the amnio to come back. It was the WORST 6 weeks of my life. The doctors were not overly concerned because all of my other testing was absolutely perfect, they were convinced it was a false positive.
Lo and behold, it was indeed a false positive. All of the undue stress, all of the crying and worrying was for nothing.
If I had to go back and start this pregnancy over, I would opt to NOT do any testing.
