Weight and TTC

Hi ladies, I was just wondering if your OBGYN has told you to lose a lot of weight before TTC. I am overweight and she just keeps reminding me of how overweight I am which is hurtful but I know that I should work on my weight a little bit first and then try to conceive. It's healthier for myself and the baby. I'm about 5'2 and I weight close to 200 pounds. I don't know what I'm looking for I guess just some support if you have been in the same boat. Thanks for listening!

Weight and TTC

I tried when I was TTC my ds. I lost a few pounds. It is important but just do what you can do. Go for a walk here and there and try to make little changes to your diet. Any little but helps but don't put off TTC because of it.

Hi, I am overweight and have had one healthy pregnancy and one early loss. My dr mention that losing weight would put me in better situation health-wise when I do TTC, but she absolutely doesn't harp on it. She's very kind about it. I do not think you need to put off TTCing in favor of losing weight so long as everything else is okay health-wise...

Re: Weight and TTC

I'm slightly taller than you and I'm heavier. I was told losing weight could make TTC easier and the pregnancy easier. No one ever ragged on me. I am healthy (outside of weight) so it was never too much of an issue.

It took me 5-6 months to get pregnant and then we naturally conceived twins. I'm 15 weeks and feel great.

It will happen when it is meant to! If your doctor is badgering you, there are always other doctors/midwives. You have to be comfortable with them!

Yes your right! I might be considering switching doctors if this continues. Thanks for your advice and help!

I personally wouldn't stress about it if your doctor told you are healthy and gave you the go ahead to conceive and that it is not a detriment to you or the baby.

I am firm believer on focusing on health rather than weight! If you are concerned, start making small changes towards a healthier lifestyle. This means different things for different people, healthy weight/BMI is only once factor when you think about health. Clean eating, proper nutrients, enough sleep, enough activtity, and stress levels are all things that define health - weight is not the only factor.

For instance, I am what is considered 'healthy' for my height/weight, but as I type I am over tired from a lack of sleep last night, due to stress and work demands, and to compensate I have a large mcdonalds coffee, with sugar substitute and an egg mcmuffin by my side - probably not the healthiest choices I could've made.

I guess what I am trying to say in a long winded way is - focus on your overall health and happiness and not the number on the scale! I have found when you look at things that way, you get much better results overall.

Also, perhaps look for a new doctor if you are finding he/she to be critical. You want someone who will be honest and thorough but most importantly, supportive!

If you do end up wanting to switch ask around on here.

I thought I liked my OB until I actually got PG. Part way through my pregnancy I decided I couldn't deal with him anymore.

I found mine through girls on here and it was the best decision I ever made. You will see your OB so much during a pregnancy. My advice is to find someone you are 100% comfortable with.

GL!!!!

Weight and TTC

I am around what you are.
My ob did not think it was an issue.
I decided not to wait.
I got pregnant naturally on my own within a few months and just really watched my weight through out the pregnancy. I delivered around 240 lbs.
I read a lot online about plus sized pregnancy and found it helpful.
Good luck!

Weight and TTC

I wouldn't harp on what your Dr. said. I think being at a good weight does make TTC and pregnancy easier but I would never put TTC on hold to lose weight unless I was experiencing health issues because of my weight. Just try to lose weight and TTC simultaneously
