Anyone bike and put their DC in a bike trailer?

DH wants me to go biking with him this summer. I agreed if we could get a trailer for DD. She will be 10 months when we plan to start biking. Anyone have suggestions on how to keep her secure until 12 months, (the earliest the big wigs recommend trailing a child).

They make slings for LOs up to 9 months but can't find anything for LOs 9-12.

What about a baby bike seat that attaches?

They don't recommend putting a baby on the baby bike seat until 12 months either. Same with a helmet.

Yes, I priced the trailer bc Julian is in the same boat - too young for the attachment (he will be a year in September) but we want to take him out this summer... But, the trailer is like $150-$180 bucks, depending on which you get and where you get it. And a good bracket for the back of the bike (they do not recommend the front AT ALL) but a good one for the back is like $130-$150. So, I know I'll only end up using the trailer for a few months and then he'll be old enough for the seat. So, I think I'm just going to wait it out and get the seat. Because otherwise it felt like a waste of money to me.

I, too, was also a little afraid of the trailer.

We didn't start taking DS out on the bike until he was a year & at that time he went on the bike attachment. Once he grew out of that he was on the bike trailer. I was nervous at first, but I actually prefer that over the bike attachment. Not to mention he LOVES it!

Me too! I always picture a car not realizing there's something behind a passing bike and hitting it.

ETA: though I guess if you only ride in a park or something similar, that's not an issue.

I fear that cars will not see the trailer. I witnessed a close call this past summer where a guy was riding his bike across an intersection with the light and a car making a right on red barely missed the child trailer. DH and I were enraged that the driver just kept on going. I just do not like the idea of a child being at ground level when I am on the bike.
