I have had to take so much time off of work for different appointments & tests. We are not telling anyone that we are TTC and going to an RE. Now, they want me to come in for a "talk" and intro session at 10 am. REALLY!! we want to get going asap, but at this rate my job will think i am interviewing elsewhere or something crazy. everyone is super close and nosy.
then next month we have to leave for iui on a certain day and we wont know til right before and etc etc.

UGH.

Chat Icon i know how you feel. When I was seeing the RE while i was TTC, with all the AM monitoring appointments, sometimes I would run late to work (they used to run really behind sometimes), and make up excuses, it was hard not to tell anyone!! I would ask if there was a way you can do the introduction meeting in the evening after work because of your work schedule? I know when I had my first RE consult, it was in the evening. Good luck!

the first one was in the evening, this is an info session... and the social worker is next bc we are using donor sperm. this + HSG + my gyno and neuro appts to get clearance -- all in a month!!

we asked about the hours and they arent flexible because of more important meetings/appts (actual issues i guess)

My job happens to be very flexible so I'm lucky, but, I don't understand how you deal if your job is not. I feel for you and often think about that when I have to take a longer lunch or come in late for an appt. it's such a private thing that you sometimes do not want to share with your employer, and I feel like they should have more accommodating hours for that reason. The earliest appt I could ever make was 9 am ( if not for monitoring) and the latest appt was 4 pm....which doesn't help me lol.

Can you just say you are going through some medical issues and there maybe a few days that the appts coincide with work?

no re: medical issues because my job is such a small company and everyone is in each other's business so it's like a super super nosy family. :(

I know it's annoying, but this is kind of what happens when you're doing fertility treatments. You just kind of have to make up excuses as you go along. I chose an RE close to work for this reason and for the most part, was able to do most things before work. And some of my IUIs happened to fall on a Saturday or Sunday so that was helpful. But you kind of just have to to what you have to do to get pregnant. Eventually your work will understand...

But honestly? They might not even notice you're taking time off or coming late. It's usually only obvious to you, since you're feeling preoccupied by missing work. The end result will be worth it!

I am a teacher. For our first round of IVF, I just told me boss I had a medical issue and needed to go to the doctor. He never asked what it was for. He was obviously concerned though so I felt bad that I did not tell him. In my four years working there, I took maybe 1-2 days off total so he must have assumed it was very serious.

If necessary, ask for a doctor's note.

This exactly but with iui's. After my first loss I told her the reason - and she was understanding. Until she stopped - and now gives me some grief but ultimately can't do anything to get me in trouble.

It is unfortunately something you have to deal with - even after getting pregnant. I've had a couple of apps with Brenner, and now my ob that could only be scheduled during work day.
My motto - family first, work second.

My job is like jeff Lewis's flipping out
But with more gossip

I'm not worried about my time (I lose probably 2 weeks a year) or not taking a lunch (no one ever does)... I'm just not wanting to tell work people before family (who we aren't telling either).

Our whole thing is that we want to make this experience as "normal" as possible.

And the damn RE's schedule is not helping!! Ugh lol

Just say it's a personal medical issue. Not lying - not being forthright either. If they get too mosey tell them you're not comfy discussing it at work, esp when your own family doesn't know,

I'm sorry. I ended up telling my boss after loss #2 and she was very supportive. I am so glad she knew what was going on because while my job is flexible, I went for tons of bloodwork for various testing, various appts, etc and she was always very understanding about all of it. Another colleage was nasty about me working from home one day so I told him I had been having a lot of medical issues and had an appt with a specialist I tried to reschedule but couldnt, and he apologized. But, I also tried to do as much as I could by phone -- I got the results from my testing over the phone rather than in person, etc. I have tried to limit my appts to just those that are truly necessary.

thank u. i feel like this "informational" appointment could be over the phone and that is frustrating.... but my boss is off next week so i wont get questioned too bad for this. i am even considering asking for a "trigger" to plan IUIs on weekends LOL but that may be taking it too far. especially if it includes a shot.

You almost definitely will get the trigger shot and can try to get it for the weekend. My first three I told re from start of cycle I preferred that, and we were able to.

Unfortunately its par for the course when doing IUIs and IVF. Lots of appts and many cannot be scheduled ahead of time.

I picked an RE near my work so I could run out at lunch or do monitoring before work.

We have a strict attendance policy at my job. I was lucky enough to find an RE close to my job, so I was never late. As long as I gave 24 hours notice "medical appointment" was a sufficient reason. Now that I am pregnant I have a little more leeway.

When I was going to the RE to conceive my DD I ended up having to tell my job what was going on. I didn't really want my principal knowing my IF issues but there was just no way around it, there were so many appts and with my commute there was no way I could always get in on time........even with taking the earliest appts.

Honestly, it turned out to be the best thing I did. She was very understanding and because she knew why I was calling out or coming in late she worked with me instead of against me. And she didn't tell anyone else what was going on. It was all kept private.

That wouldn't always work out. If your egg is raring to go on a Monday or Tuesday they won't wait until the weekend to trigger you.

Do they have any late nights? Maybe you can do the informational appt one night after work?
