hospital waiting room wwyd

my mother (who i am very close with and watches dd on a daily basis) needs knee surgery. she scheduled it for Friday May 9th. I am due May 20th and my dr filled out my paperwork that May 9th is my last day of work. Dh is taking off May 9th to spend the day with DD.
my mom keeps saying she doesnt want me in the waiting room at the hospital and to go to work etc (shes worried about the germs but its not like shes in the ER).
I spoke to my dr today and they said they can easily change the paperwork and put me out a day earlier if i want.
so wwyd - start leave a day early so i can be in the waiting room during my moms surgery, or keep it as is?
its outpatient surgery - nothing major, going home that night. so i would literally just be in the waiting room.
my sister is taking her and will be in the waiting room with my aunt so she wont be alone.

should i go to work as planned or take the day.
i will be seeing her the next day and can stop by daily to check on her after that point so its literally just the day of surgery in question

As long as someone else is there with her I would not go crazy with trying to be there.

But my parents are in FL and I have gotten very used to not being there. My Dad has had heart attacks and a stroke and I wasn't there so not being there for an out patient thing is not a big deal for me.

I guess it really depends on your relationship with her too...My SIL would not let my MIL go to any surgery without her being there.

Cant u just come in after work to be there to take her home? I was in the hospital the other day as my OB's office is there and I needed to go to another floor after, and I was not well afterwards. Probably a total coincidence, but I was out sick since last Wed until today.
