Anyone esle feel like they are drowning??

Uhhhhh I like to be in control....and I feel soooo out of control.

I have 3 kids 3 and under and I work 4 days a week.

My 3rd is a bit adventurous and curious. I can't let him out of my sight for a second.

Between the work I need to get done for work, cleaning, bills I feel like things are not in my control. I have plans to do everything at night but once the kids are asleep and the kitchen and bathroom is cleaned from dinner and baths I am just so tired!!!

I actually have no business being on LIF right now because I have 101 things of my to do list but this is the first time I sat down all day and I just need to vent.

I know we have all been here so I am not sure what I am looking for. I feel like I need to lower my expectations for what I can get done.

How do you just let it go?!

Re: Anyone esle feel like they are drowning??

I only have 1 & I feel this way soChat Icon just for having 3.
I just make a list of things that absolutely have to be done (bills, cleaning, food shopping) & I just let the rest go.
For months I've been saying I need to go through her clothes, make photo albums before she gets older, clean the basement...but I just put it on the bottom of the list.
This time goes so fast, the basement can wait to get clean for another couple years when she starts school, hopefully I'll have a little more time then.
It's so hard!

Anyone esle feel like they are drowning??

Sometimes you need the five minutes of down time to get you through the next few hrs -- so I would say job well done taking a few minutes out for you.

For me? I don't have 3 under 3 but I have two and work full time. Our fine china is solo cups and paper plates, fresh direct and pea pod drivers know my kids names, I've learned that even though I hate it early morning is my friend, and my husband helps tremendously.

I also have someone come in and do the heavy cleaning -- scrubbing tubs and such every other week so I can do the daily this and not worry that I'll never get around to the deep cleaning. I also decide what's important at the moment -- lists don't work for me they stress me out more.

Take a breathe - you've got this -- you are not drowning your swimming through the waves :)

Love this!

I WISH I had the $$ for a deap clean even if just once a month! I feel like I just "get by" with my cleaning. Today I scrubbed the kitchen but it took me all day in between the craziness.

I am lucky that my DH does alot too....but with the nice weather comes the outside chores of cutting the lawn etc so our time is split more now.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know I will get through just having one of those days. lol

Honestly for me, when something's got to give, the first thing to go is cleaning. It's just not that important to me to have a clean house. I'd rather have a nap. Or a glass of wine. Or my sanity.

This. I try to prioritize my things that need to be done. Obviously the kids come first, then my own needs, then cooking, then cleaning.

However there are some days I don't even get to shower, let alone cook or clean. Sometimes sleep is just more important, and tomorrow is a new day!

You're doing an amazing job! I can't imagine how you do it with 3 kids under 3. Just do what you can. As long as everyone is happy, healthy, fed and clean that's all you really need.

Happy kids have moms with messy kitchens and piles of laundry. Live in the now with them. Years from now they won't remember how clean your house is, but they will remember you playing with them.

And I know you feel like you don't have the time for this but once a week try to get out for an hour, just you (or with friends). The time away will make you a better mommy because it will refresh you.

Re: Anyone esle feel like they are drowning??

I agree, lower your cleaning expectations. It's just not worth it. I clean my kitchen and bath once a week unless there's a huge spill or other incident. And there sure as heck isn't any "deep cleaning" or "scrubbing" going on. My kids have been super healthy all winter, only 1 ear infection between the two of them, so I guess it works for us!

I've also found that only doing baths every other night works better for us. It frees up some time on the alternate nights to just play together or for me or DH to do some chores while the other plays with the kids.

Hang in there, you're doing great!

I agree. And we have a cleaning lady come biweekly so it doesn't get as bad. Cleaning is not my priority.

I only have one but I work full time. But honestly I do t let myself feel bad if something doesn't get done unless its life or death. Cleaning gets do e what gets done. As long as we don't smell and are healthy who cares.

I'm a Sahm with 2 and feel this way. Lol. I applaud you for working and 3 kids. Ask my day my house is always a mess lol. The kitchen gets done daily b/c it gets so gross but that's at least an hour. I usually do it when the baby is napping and dd1 is in school or watching tv. It's so hard and I'm home lol.
One silly thing that has helped is we got the I robot roomba vacuum.. It goes off every night at 10. It truly has saved so much time and effort lol.

I also do what I can when I can. The bathroom doesn't take long so once a week I do it really quick.

Everything else can wait.

You became a saint in my eyes after I read this line! This in itself is a lot on your plate.

Don't be so hard on yourself and if you don't get to stuff or something is put off till a later on, it'll be ok. Just know that you are doing your best and I'm sure a fantastic job. I applaud and you should take some time out and applaud yourself.

Plus a glass a wine and feet up on the couch never hurt anyone. ;)

i feel like i am drowning all the time, and i am a SAHM for now with my almost 3 y.o. and almost 1 y.o. it is HARD and demanding and sometimes i think i may lose my mind. it takes forever for the laundry to actually get put away and my floor is perpetually covered in food no matter how many times a day i clean up. cleaning sometimes feels like trying to plug up niagara falls with my finger.

Seriously!!!! My mom watches the 3 of them and says my 3rd is harder than the twins together at his age. He climbs, plays in the toilet, is into everything, knocks things over.....
you say his name and he shakes his head no. That is how much we say no no ColinChat Icon

Re: Anyone esle feel like they are drowning??

OMG!! Im about to join the 3 under 3 club and Im so nervous. Im a SAHM so I admire you tremendously since I can barely get out of the house with 2. I wish I was working at times just to get a moment to myself. We are putting our tiny 2 bedroom co-op up for sale and my parents are moving too. Im so nervous since DD my second child who will be 1 in May is such a handful. I pray that this one will be a dream child like my DS who will be 2 in a half when the new baby comes. I feel like Im drowning all the time! My DH thinks Im crazy because I always have to have a plan so I can get these kids to sleep by 7:30 so my day begins.
It's hard for me to go to bed with dishes in the sink or a big mess but sometimes you just have to so you can stay sane and get some Me time.

This exactly. I have a friend who made comments about me taking naps and I told her it's all about priorities... I choose a nap, she chooses laundry. To each their own.Chat Icon Chat Icon but I'm way more laid back about that sort of thing than most. My house is clean, though I've had laundry that needed to be put away for over a week now. Mind you, it's folded neatly in a basket Chat Icon

Re: Anyone esle feel like they are drowning??

I right with you!!! Im a SAHM and only have ONE DS (who is 3). but its tough to keep up!!! hes a REALLY good kid, listens, well behaved... BUT his personality is a little demanding- he likes to be entertained, have things to do, have your full attention-- and its hard bc I can't just say "go play with your brother (or sister)" :-/

I'm learning to just let things go, like everybody else said. he still takes a nap and I used to spend that time cleaning LOL... but lately its more catching up on here, or on TV or whatever. your sanity is important, too so you have to take time for yourself. I hate my house being a little messy and out of order. BUT I just keep telling myself that he's happy, hes smart, hes social- so right now I'm putting more energy into that than whether my house is dusted or theres a little dog hair on my floor :-/ its not gonna kill him or us. (WELL.... unless you talk to my MIL, then its the end of the world Chat Icon Chat Icon Luckily we live 5 hours away from her and only see her a few times a year- so I just go nuts cleaning before she comes Chat Icon )
anyway... just enjoy the kids, put your energy into them now while they're young and need so much of it Chat Icon your house will be clean again sometime!

Re: Anyone esle feel like they are drowning??

DD is 8 1/2 mos and I've felt like this since we brought her home! Sometimes I'm just completely overwhelmed and other times, I'm like whatever. I feel like I can scream with the never ending dishes and laundry. I'm ok with letting the cleaning going, but DH and I don't always see eye to eye on that. Chat Icon

I also work ft and travel for work, which just stinks. I see other moms make it look so effortless and I literally wonder what's wrong with me that I struggle and have such difficult days.

My mantra is literally one day at a time and as long as we are all healthy and (relatively) happy, then we are good to go.
