Not worth it registry items
Was there anything you registered for that you didn't use? Anything you would tell a FTM to skip from registering?
I wish someone told me some things not to register for with my bridal shower.
Looking to see if any ladies have some advice.

Re: Not worth it registry items
every baby is different so its hard to tell. i also cant recall what i returned from DD but i know there was definitely a lot
i would stay away from clothing - people are going to buy you that regardless
i wouldnt put newborn size diapers bc they may not fit for long (if anything put size 1)
i personally found the wipe warmer to be a waste, but there are others that swear by it
i would avoid putting bottles bc you dont know which your LO will take to best
i also wouldnt put a nursery bedding set on the registry - most of them are lik $100+ and they have things that you cant use...ours came with crib sheets (which we use), a heavy blanket/quilt that we never used to this day and dd is 14 months, crib bumpers that we didnt use. you can just put crib sheets on the registry to match the room

Agree with everything above... with the bedding set, you don't need all the stuff that comes with it. Honestly just a sheet... and maybe breathable bumpers if you are concerned (i switched to regular ones when he was older). I also never used my bassinet, DS only liked to sleep in the rock n play at first. It is sitting in my guest bedroom collecting dust! I also thought my bottle sanitizer was a waste since you can just sanitize it in the dish washer.

Re: Not worth it registry items
We lived in the city when DS was born and pared down to just what we considered the essentials. We really used virtually everything we had. But, I will say we LOVED the zipper crib sheets. So much easier for sheet changes and my DS rarely had blowouts. We are now in a big boy bed and my DH has already asked if they make them in twin sizes! (They do, and we are considering them).

Re: Not worth it registry items
bottle warmer-she isn't picky about temp and warm water works fine.
wipe warmer- Ain't nobody got time for that.
newborn diapers-she was in the nicu, so she was almost 9 lbs when she came home. But the hospital used size 1, and just folded them down
receiving blankets-I use the swaddle blankets, but I really only use a few, and we got a lot at our shower
newborn hats/mittens-they always came off and the shirts that fold over into mittens worked a lot better.
sleep sacks-she likes the swaddle ones. I would buy one of each type and try them and then get more after she was born.
1000 towels and wash clothes-I really only needed a few. I mostly just wash her with my hands.
Otherwise, we were pretty judicious about registering and only picked practical stuff and so far we have used most of what we registered for.

Diaper Genie - I found this to be a complete waste. I would much rather have dirty diapers leave the area quickly than end up a big stinky sausage link.

Re: Not worth it registry items
bottle warmer definitely not worth it in my opinion. a cup with hot water does the same job and better than my warmer
I had a winter baby so wipe warmer was extremely helpful- he would scream his lungs out as a newborn with a cold wipe on his tush. I have the munchkinglow one that stays plugged in and warmed so all i have to do is refill it when necessary.
don't register for any clothes, blankets, bibs, hats- got so many as gifts!

Re: Not worth it registry items
I didn't have a bumbo but I had a seat like the bumbo with some toys for DD. She loved it and it got her off her back.
I never used the jumperoo. She loved the exersaucer the other just wasn't used as much so I'd pick one or the other.
We've used to the bottle warmer but honestly, room temp water was fine.
Clothes, they grow out of them so quickly, at least mine did. And in the beginning we only kept her in sleep and plays for a few months.
I would also hold off on buying an expensive stroller. We have the city mini and while I like it, its best for outdoors, going to the playground, parks, outings like the zoo etc. One of the larger umbrella type strollers would have been just fine and cheaper and get around the mall just fine.
I also would ONLY register for the infant car seat. And buy the convertible when you are ready. New ones come out, recalls and such. Plus when you are ready to buy DC can "try" them out in the store.

This. If you have a winter baby then I would get it. I never had one until my MIL said when she changed him at her house and had the warmer he never peed during changes. He always peed for us with a cold wipe. Stopped the minute we got a warmer.

Re: Not worth it registry items
Hardly ever used the Bumbo. And the bottle warmer was not worth it at all. Everytime we used it we would find we didn't make the bottle as warm as we thought it would..and the formula would leak all over in the bottom and we had to take everything apart and clean it. A real PIA!!! I also had a bottle rack I never used.

I think what this post proves is that you really won't know what's necessary until DC is here. Each baby is so different. For us, we never used the Bumbo or bottle warmer. They were complete wastes.

I agree. We had an expensive stroller (Uppababy) and it was one of the best purchases we had. we lived in the city without a car and it was our only vehicle and we used it all the time. We use it less often in the burbs and now that DS is older but we still love it. worth every penny and then some
