Very disappointed with winthrop
Never really posted on this site but I just delivered my beautiful baby boy at Winthrop 2 weeks ago and felt like I should share for those of you choosing a hospital. Stay away! I thought labor and delivery was great but the mother/baby unit for maternity was terrible start to finish!
The rooms were old, shared rooms, with no shower (there was a communal shower down the hall). Honestly I could get past that if I was receiving good care but the nurses were terrible too. I'm a first time mom who was struggling with breast feeding, asking for help, and basically no one would help me. One nurse kept saying "you'll figure it out" and would walk right back out the door never looking at my latch or position or anything. I asked for a lactation consultant and was told the unit was really busy and none were available! There were so many other smaller issues too.. calling multiple times for pain meds with no one bringing them, rude employees, nurses saying they had run out of alot of supplies. I was so happy to get out of there and be home, but now I just got a phone call that Winthrop mislabeled my sons bloodwork that was sent to the state so now we need to come back in to re-do it. WHAT?!? Are they serious????? I have to bring my newborn back to the hospital to sit in the crowded pre-op waiting room to re-do bloodwork that we already did? During cold/flu season?!? I'm so upset :(. If you can stay away from this hospital.

Re: Very disappointed with winthrop
I am sorry you had a bad experience. If you still need breast feeding support modern tribal mamas is a great group on Facebook and a lactation consultant might be a good resource too.
Also, we had to repeat my sons blood work bc we didn't get enough of a sample and we were able to do the draw at our ped and didn't have to go back to the hospital for that.
I would still be upset by everything you are though

Re: Very disappointed with winthrop
Wow, sorry you had such a terrible experience. I have delivered there twice in the last 4 years and I will be there again this year. I hope to have a great experience this time as well.
I wasn't aware of the communal showers but they have always had shared rooms. Private rooms used to be available at a rate, when I was last there they were trying to accommodate everyone with a private room. Sharing only happened if they were very busy. If you do need to return for the bloodwork you shouldn't have to wait in the common areas. I had to bring dc back at 5 days old for jaundice and we were taken right away.
After I last delivered there I received a phone call from Winthrop about 2 weeks after I delivered asking about my experience and what I thought of my stay. If you can you should let them know how you feel. Congratulations on your
