feta cheese
If I order greek food from a local place, how do I know if the feta cheese pasteurized? I read online that almost all of it is but I asked at one place and the girl behind the counter couldn't give me a definitive answer. Is it that big of a risk?

IMO i don't think so. I ate it. I heard that most if not all cheese in the US is pasterized.

Re: feta cheese
I miss feta dearly. My doctor clearly said not to have it along with other non-pasteurized cheeses or cheeses that are in liquids. Unless you get it baked type of thing. I know tons of people that ate feta throughout their pregnancy and all is okay, but I figure I'll just wait and then second this baby pops out, I'm having a feta cheese party lol

Athenos brand is pasteurized and most other brands sold in supermarkets.
Also most restaurants have pasteurized cheese bc it lasts longer, that said a true blue Greek place I would ask,

Cool! I'll check out Athenos. It still won't be the same as getting the fresh Dodonis feta cheese from the greek store.

Traders Joe's has a pasteurized feta that is almost as good as Dodonis. Its my go to feta if I can't get to a greek store.

Re: feta cheese
Thanks everyone! I called 4 or 5 places and was able to find a place that said their cheese was def pasteurized. I was ready to just order food and then go to the grocery store to get some feta to throw on top lol. At least now I know I can order from this place for the next several months

Re: feta cheese
I still eat feta. I asked the owner at a Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant and he told me that all cheese used/sold commercially is pasteurized. He complained that he used to make his own yogurt sauce and now he can't even do that because of all the regulations. When DH asked the owner of the pizzeria he said the same thing. The only places that would have non-pasteurized cheeses are like small dairy farms or something like that.
