btdt moms - what to do with older dc

Question for moms where this isn't their first kid....what do you do with dc during all of the appointments? Do you bring him/her with you?

I'm a SAHM with a 20m dd and we don't have family that live relatively close, and we've never had to hire a sitter before. DH could take off from work and watch DC during the more mundane appointments but there are definite ones (ultrasounds, the 1st one where you get to hear the heartbeat) where I'd like him to be in the room with me.

Is it weird to bring dd with us into the exam room for all of those appointments? I was also high risk the first time around and had to do monthly growth scans...

I have taken my 3 year old with me to ever single appointment expect the 1 hour GD test.
I don't think anyone thought anything about it.. I just take my kindle or let her play my iphone while we are waiting.

ive seen many parents bring their kids to the appts - i wouldnt worry about it.
i am fortunate to have my mom close enough to watch dd but if she isnt around for an appt, dd is coming with me!

I recently brought my 2.5 year old Dd to an appointment with me. No one even batted an eye. It's definitely ok to bring your LO if you have to.

Thanks for reassuring me that it's ok...I was seriously starting to freak out about what to do with her for those major appts or if I'd have to tell dh he should just stay in the waiting room or at home with her.

My dh said I tend to worry about the stupidest things sometimes..

My mom usually watches them, but I've also brought them to appointments.

If DD isn't in school she comes to all my appts. I am high risk as well. The only ones I purposely didn't bring her to was the 1 hour GTT, 3 hour GTT and my consult with the diabetic educator.

I'm on dc #3, my 2 other dc have had to come with me to several appointments so far. I did not bring them with me for the first sono,1st appt where I knew I would need a PAP or the 12 week sono. I also know that I am not allowed to bring them to my level 2 sono which will be done outside of my OB's office. All the other appointments they are with me, I just pack a ton of stuff for them to do and pray we don't wait too long.

My DD was 4 when I was pregnant, I took her to EVERY appt. I had no choice most days. I also had GD so I was at the OB A LOT for NT scans and monitoring so she sat through many extra appts with me too. I just brought her a little tote with books, her Leap Pad, and a snack. It kept her plenty busy.

She actually LOVED the sonos, she was always so excited to see the baby and the sono tech usually gave her a sono pic just for her. It was nice actually having her be a part of it all. It made her excited for DS arrival and helped her to understand what was happening for those long 9 months. Chat Icon

Re: btdt moms - what to do with older dc

My son is 5 and I bring him to most appointments except sonograms. My husband is rarely home for the appointments and I am going to need people to watch him after so I don't want to bug him. For my 20 week sonogram, my mother came with us (because DS wanted to know if it was a boy or girl) and then took him in the waiting room after a while. I had to have a growth sonogram this week at 26 weeks and my friend watched him. Other than that, if my husband is home, I leave him with him, but take him most of the time!

dd is 3 and most of the apts I took her with me.
She really loved being there and seeing and hearing the baby. It made it much more real for her.
Now that I am at the end she hasnt come though. Shes still talking about how I got a shot in my butt I dont think I need her telling everyone I got an internal exam. Chat Icon

When I was PG with DD#2, DD#1 was 2, and I brought her to every appointment with me. She'd just sit in the stroller and play. Sometimes I'd bring a portable DVD player for her. I even brought her when I had my IUI's! Chat Icon
