Anyone here not want to go on maternity leave?
I have a few more weeks of work left and a part of me dreads the thought of having to go on leave for 2 months. Chalk it up to job security fears and being too disconnected from work.
Anyone else feels the same?

I am looking forward to it, but I do feel slightly bad about leaving my students at the very end of the school year - 6 weeks before the Regents. For the last week, I have been busy prepping lessons for the end of the year since the leave replacements that my school tends to hire stink!

I can't wait for leave. However, we will probably be moving so its not going to be all relaxing.

i love not thinking about work for a few months. you are going to be so sleep deprived and busy with a newborn you wont even remember if you brushed your teeth that day let alone worrying about work!!!

Nope. Can't wait. But I might be working from home during the 6 weeks of "leave" so I can still get a full paycheck instead of the crappy $170/wk paid by disability.

Re: Anyone here not want to go on maternity leave?
I understand where you're coming from. I was nervous about going out on leave because my job has always been my job... I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that being a mom was going to be my full time job for a few months and not go to work. up until the day I left, I told my boss how I couldn't believe I wouldn't be coming back to work... but at soon as my little one was born, my concerns about work fell away. I needed maternity to recover and learn my new job as a mom and although it was hard to come back to work and leave my little one, it also felt good to come back.
I don't have any advice for anticipating going out on leave, but as someone else who was apprehensive about what it was going to be like, just know that you will come into a new normal on the other side :)

Oh so true!! Then you might not want to go back when Maternity leave is up. I hate to work, so I always looked forward to Maternity leave.

Anyone here not want to go on maternity leave?
I am really looking fwd spending time at home with the baby, but a part of me really is concerned being away for 3 months from my job. I have someone working under me (brand new guy) who will be taking over my duties while I am out and just thinking abt him doing my stuff that I worked soooo hard to establish and that I taught him everything on top of him probably messing up a lot of my processes - drives me crazy. Plus I am a bit concerned coming back and my job thinking that they dont need to pay for a senior person to do the work when they were perfectly fine with a very junior guy doing same and will fire me. As I am the only paycheck in our household this part really gives me anxiety.

I cannot wait for maternity leave. It's my second time around and the first time was such a wonderful period of time with my family.

I'm nervous about leaving my students at the end of the year. I'm nervous for the sub bc I teach at a boces and my classes are 2.5 hours and I've had issues with them with subs when I was out for 1 day. I can't imagine 6 weeks. I'm also nervous for my classroom !! It takes a lot to get 11th and 12th graders on task and I feel like I run my room really tough and I just feel like all my hard work is going to turn to chaos while I'm gone.

I hate that my due date is so close to the Regents (I'm a high school teacher). I may take a short maternity leave (3-4 weeks) in order to get back for the Regents if possible. I'm going to wait and see what happens.
