If you have been on one, did you like it? We are looking at taking Adventure of the seas in May. Those of you that have cruised on RC and other cruise lines, how would you rate RC compared to others? Thanks!

Loved it! We have been on the RC Explorer of the Seas twice, the Celebrity Summit (their sister cruise line, slightly nicer & fancier) and loved it too. We've been on Carnival once (dh has been on carnival a few times) and we've liked it too. The only one we didn't like was Norwegian, but that's because they threatened my 77 year old, little Italian grandfather because he complained about my aunt's credit card being charged incorrectly. [And FYI, my grandfather pays for our cruises every other year, and was very successful in the advertising business, so he's no thug.] We also found the Norwegian staff to be extremely rude, the ship to be dirty, and the food subpar.

Re: Royal Caribbean cruise

LOVE RCCL. We have been on the Explorer, the Oasis, the Allure and going back on the Allure this summer.
We have been on an older boat many years ago that is not in service anymore and NCL.
NCL was ok, not bad but IMO there was not enough snacks for me.

Re: Royal Caribbean cruise

I went on only 1 cruise. It was a RC cruise. Cruising isn't for me. So I didn't love it obviously. But if you are a cruise person, then I think it would be good. I had no complaints. The food was great although unless dining in the main hall, sparse. I wish they had more eating options/more food at different times. Activities were fine. It was too windy to swim/walk outside when we went.

Re: Royal Caribbean cruise

Never been on any other cruise lines, only RCCL.
Been on Serenade of the Seas, Oasis, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas (twice).

Would love to do Oasis again or Allure.

The only problem I ever had was our last sailing on Adventure.
It was DH's 50th birthday and I arranged for the room decorations to surprise him. They were never put up. When I complained at the desk, I found out that the ship was sold out already 2 cruises prior to this one.
I pitched a major hissy fit because this was a ONCE IN A LIFETIME even, had i known in advance would have done my own decoratiosn. My money was refunded, champagne and strawberries sent to the room, and a two free birthday cakes that evening for dinner since we were a large group. Also had major ass-kissing the rest of the cruise.

Other than that, I would cruise RCCL again, most likely though will upgrade to Celebrity.

Thanks everyone. When I told a friend who takes only disney cruises that I am planning to take Royal Caribbean, she suggested that I look into a Disney cruise because of the recent norovirus outbreak on RC. I told her that it can happen on any cruise. We are paying for my SIL family also so I don't want to take the most expensive cruise. Glad so many of you like it.

I wouldn't pick a cruise over a virus either. It can happen on any ship and does. It is just not reported every single time.

It can absolutely happen anywhere, and IMO, probably more likely to happen on Disney because of the amount of kids on the cruise - how many kids honestly remember to wash their hands or use the hand sanitizer. On the cruise last summer, there was a person at the entrance to ALL of the restaurants (and the lunch/breakfast buffet) who made sure that each and every person used the hand sanitizer (RCCL). I hate to say it, but if you make sure you keep your hands clean, like they recommend, then you'll be fine. It might have even been something to do with an excursion.

Re: Royal Caribbean cruise

We have sailed on RC and had a great time. We are frequent cruisers and have been on most lines. Not sure what that particular ship offers but the one we were on had character experiences and an ice skating rink as well as really great productions. I would not hesitate to book another trip on RC

We just did one (Liberty of the Seas) and had a good time. We both found the food to be pretty disappointing but we're sort of food snobs, I hate to admit.

Re: Royal Caribbean cruise

I have been on 4 cruises and 3 of them were Royal Caribbean. We have been on Adventure of the Seas twice.

I think the ship is currently being re-done, but I am not sure. When I was on it in 2009 it definitely needed some fixing up-it was looking a little worn compared to our first time on it in 2004.

We were just on Brilliance & that had recently been redone, so Adventure should be just as nice when it is done.

We had a great time on our RC cruises. The only thin I didn't like about this ship is that the main promenade area gets very crowded, I prefer the layout of a smaller ship like the Brilliance of the Seas, but there is a lot to do on this ship & it has more pools than the Brilliance.

We were big fans of the golf themed bar, the 19th hole b/c it was away from promenade where most of the bars where, and it was never really crowded.

I think it is a great line for first time cruisers.

Norovirus can happen anywhere and isn't a new threat-we were on Brilliance of the Seas in November, and there were constant reminders about washing hands, etc--and there is Purell at every place that serves food.

My mom has the same concerns b/c we might go on another cruise this year, but we have been on 4 already while we knew about the threat, it wasn't in the news, so she didn't and is only freaked out about it now.

Purell does not work on Norovirus, soap and water does a better job.
Norovirus can happen anywhere, not just on ships.

Definitely don't choose a cruise on a virus. I think every single cruiseline has been hit and one time or another. Just make sure you keep washing your hands and you should be fine.

I have never been on Royal but have heard great things and wouldn't hesitate to sail them. I have sailed almost every other cruiseline multiple times and now am in a NCL kick. If you like to cruise any line you go on will be fun as long as you don't let little things ruin your vacation.
