Those who have EBF & were a bridesmaid

I am preggo with baby #3 and due June 5. I am a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding on August 9. I EBF my last two babies and plan to do the same.

I am just really worried about how the day will go with pumping. By 4 weeks, I introduce a bottle so I am not worried about the baby. I may even stop home between the church & reception since everything is close to home.

I am worried about where I am going to pump? In the bridal suite with everyone - yeah right. The weather and keeping the milk fresh on ice. Leaking, my dress, ugh!

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

It's great that you have access to the bridal suite. I think you'd be in a stickier situation if you were a regular guest.

You can probably pump in the bathroom of the bridal suite if you don't feel comfortable doing it in the main area. I know during my wedding I didn't use the suite a whole lot so I'm sure there will be times where it's empty.

DD was 18 days old and I was in the bridal party. The wedding was OOS and my friend let me bring DD to the wedding with my parents. I nursed her a lot, but I still leaked. Thankfully my dress was a heavy satin but it was completely destroyed by the end of the night. I nursed in the bridal suite as that was the only free room. Everyone was very understanding about the situation and just happy we could make it up there.

My DD was 6 weeks when my sister got married. I pumped twice in the bridal suite and keep the milk in a refrigerated bag. I wore nursing pads and while my boobs were huge by the end of the night I didn't leak much.

DD was almost 4 mos old when I was MOH in my best friends wedding. Everyone was very understanding and gave me privacy in the bridal suite. I even had the attendant help me with my dress and stand guard at the door. I brought a cooler bag with ice packs to store the milk. I wore a very well fitted strapless bra with pads for leakage. It all worked out so much better than I anticipated.

My DS was about 3 months when I went away overnight for a wedding out of state. I was a bridesmaid and pumped several times... before leaving for the ceremony, in the bridal suite during cocktail hour and 1-2x during the reception. It wasn't a big deal, but just make sure you have enough ice packs and storage if you won't have access to a fridge for a while. BM can stay at room temp for up to 6 hours and still be ok.

I pumped in the bathroom when I was a bridesmaid at a wedding when DD was 4 months. I just dumped the milk since I didn't have anywhere to store it or disinfect the pump parts in between sessions.

My BFF pumped and breast feed in my bridal suite. She did leak on her dress minutes before our ceremony but my coordinator was prepared with shout wipes and a blow dryer to do damage control. As long as you come prepared you should be fine.

Re: Those who have EBF & were a bridesmaid

I was a bridesmaid when DS was 5 weeks old. I pumped in the morning before leaving home, then when I got to the bride's parent's house in the bathroom before getting ready, then at the reception (which was not in a typical hall) I had to find a bathroom on the grounds that had a plug, then when I got back home. I dumped all my milk that day, it would have been too difficult to store it properly & haul it around with me... it was annoying enough to have to carry the pump in the limo. Just have to be creative in finding places to pump... a good idea is to get the adapter so you can pump in the car... I didn't have one at the time & it would have made things much easier.

I attended a wedding as a guest when DS was 5 months old. I just pumped in the bathroom. I think i had to go twice during the reception didn't fully pump; but just enough to relieve the fullness.

One of my bridesmaids had a baby a month before my wedding. She used the bridal suite to pump when she needed. No one was really in there for very long, she was able to use it whenever she wanted and she just told someone when she was going so the mainly the guys didn't go in there. We had a large bridal party and it was not a problem at all.
