Ice Skating - age?
After watching the Olympics all week, DD (who will be 3 in June) keeps asking to go ice skating! Do they have skates to rent in such a small size? Is she way too young to attempt it?

Re: Ice Skating - age?
My 5 and 6 year old skate every day (inlaws built a skating rink in their backyard) and my nephew who is 15 months is learning now. He has double bladed skates that we had to order online to get in his size. I don't think 3 is too young! I would call ahead and ask if they have skates in her size. I know they have those bars at rinks that new skaters can use to steady themselves.

Re: Ice Skating - age?
We took DD before 2 yrs old. Her feet were too big for the smallest skates. She got the hang of it a bit more the second time. I held her and had her take small steps.

Re: Ice Skating - age?
I was on skates at 18 months and playing ice hockey at 3...so no she isn't too young...I would recommend buying an inexpensive pair of skates if you can

Re: Ice Skating - age?
We just took our kids for the first time last weekend and my son is 3. He has a pretty big foot--10--so it wasn't a problem. I did see two or three other kids his size.
He was very scared at first, but my DH and I both got out there with him and then he enjoyed it--we couldn't let go of him though; I think he would have fallen on his face!
He and I were watching the men's skating yesterday and he was pretending to do all the moves

Funny, we were just talking about this! DS is almost 2.5, I plan to bring him to open skate at flushing meadow soon. They start lessons at 3 and I want to try that out for him also, I took lessons as a kid and loved it!

we just took our son who is a little over 3 ice skating recently. he loved it, but was soooo wobbly & was all over the place on the ice. he starts swimming lessons this weekend & we're gonna see how he does with roller blades this spring & try the ice skating thing again in the fall

Ice Skating - age?
We went 2 weeks ago with our 2.5 year old. They didn't have double bladed skates, so we just held her tight with the single blade. She had a great time, and did not want to get off the ice. Next time we go I want to find a place with double bladded skates.
