Talk to me about inducing.
So I went to my dr appt today. He took blood because he didn't like that my pressure is still high and in still very swollen. The baby looks fine and moved down. He said he will probably send me to Winthrop after the appt on Friday to induce me. Unless the blood test comes back bad before then, then he will send me right to Winthrop and I I'll be induced.
I'm a FTM so im. Not sure what this entails or what to expect. Any advice/experiences you can share?

Talk to me about inducing.
I was successfully induced. I was nervous bc I have heard that 50% of inductions end up in a csection (and for most of my friends that's what happened).
I checked in at 7am. Started pitocin at about 930am. Had dd at 1130pm. Very smooth labor and delivery.

Depending on your cervix, if it is ripe or effaced, then they may admit you the night before for cervadil. It is inserted and you sleep at the hospital. In the morning you would probably get pitocin. I skipped the cervadil bc I didn't need it.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced at 39.5 weeks with DS. I see a high risk due to blood clotting disorders and they don't allow you to go past 39 weeks. I wasn't entirely ready, about 2 cm but pretty closed off on top and not very effaced. They started me off with Cervidil for 12 hours, that did nothing so they inserted another one for another 12 hours. After that Pitocin for a few hours and they broke my water. After that I went into active labour insanely fast and it took only a few pushes to get DS out. The induction itself felt forever (in total about 36 hours), but the labour part wasn't rough. Only about an hour of extreme pain until I was given the epidural and that lasted that long only because the anesthesiologist was otherwise engaged... Dreading it this time around since I really don't want to leave DS for such a long time but hoping that if I do have to be induced it'll be the same pain wise at least. Could shave a few hours off the actual induction.

Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced at 41 weekswith no sign of labor. I went in Dec 28 at around noon. They placed a thing almost like a tampon inside of me, it was cervadil to oosen the cervix. I spent the night there, at 6am my cervix was 3cm dialated. They started pitocin. LO was born at 12:12 pm. All in all it was a quick labor. No complications. It was my second pregnancy and felt no different then the first labor.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced both deliveries. I wouldn't have it any other way. I liked knowing how everything was going to go. I checked in the hospital very early in the morning. Was given cervidal and then pitocin. Pitocin moved things along very quickly and both dd's delivered vaginally.
Only side effect both times, I got sick from the Pitocin.
Good luck!!

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
How far along will you be? If your cervix is dilating and partially effaced, ask if breaking your water would be a good option for inducement. I had to be induced because it was discovered I had HELLP syndrome. I was 40w2d, 4cm and 80% effaced so the doctor said all she needed to do was break my water and labor would start. I was very skeptical. I wanted to avoid pitocin like the plague because I wanted to labor and deliver med/epi free. Lo and behold doc was right and labor started within 30 min and baby was born 6 hours later.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
was induced at 40w4d. AT 7pm was given cervidil. Had to lay down for 2 hours then I was allowed to get up and walk the halls to help things move along. I immediately felt a difference and could barely walk. The baby was so low at that point. I walked for about an hour then went back to room and was allowed ginger ale and jello. By 11 I started have contractions and my water ended up breaking on its own thank god. by 1am I had an EPI and was completely numb from waist down. I was still only about 5cm dilated. I thought I would have the baby in the middle of the night, but nope. At 8am I was 8cm dilated...again I thought I would have the baby anytime soon. I called family to come to hospital and everything...No progress until about 3pm I was 9cm. They laid me on my side so I could try and get to 10cm. The contractions were coming back again and EPI wasn't helping. by 4-4;15 I was ready to push. I pushed for about 45min-1hour and dd was born at 5:15pm. So all in all I was in labor for almost 24hours. I had second degree tears so I had a lot of stitches.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced because my water broke. They inserted cervadil to dilate me. I did not need pitocin because the cervadil alone started my contractions. I delivered my DS vaginally. Good luck!

Talk to me about inducing.
I will add that my water needed to be broken. That was at about 730pm...it was when my own obgyn came on call at the hospital. Once my water broke I progressed rapidly!!!!!!

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was successfully induced. Sent to the hospital because of low fluid around 1pm but i wasnt admitted till around5ish. They started Cervadil at 7pm and i started having regular contractions by 11pm. She was born at 6:39am.
That is generally not how fast it goes though. They explained that they would take the Cervadil out after 12hrs and then let me wait a few hours then try again, then i assume i would have been given pitocin as well. My Dr wasnt there to deliver her because it happened so fast... Hopefully you get lucky too!

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
WIth my 2nd I was induced at 39 weeks. I wasn't ready to deliver so I had 2 rounds of cervadil. They took that out at 3 in the morning. Started pitocin at 9 am and baby was born at around 3. I got the epidural soon after the pitocin. To make me feel better.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced at 38 weeks. The doctor said our plan would be to start cervadil at 6pm and let it stay in for 12 hours, try to get some sleep overnight and then take it out around 6am. At that point we would start pitocin.
What actually happened was we started the cervadil at 6pm, by 10pm I was in full on active labor. I couldn't wait for an epi and they said I had to be at least 4cm dialated (I was a fingertip to 1cm when I went in).... well the active labor went so fast, I jumped from 5 to 7cm in minutes and there was no time for the epi! DS was born at 3:49am... just 10 hours after starting the cervadil. never made it to the pitocin!

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced successfully, 10 days overdue. At 1pm they inserted cytotec, I was told I would be given a dose every 4 hours to keep the contractions going, but my uterus was contracting so much that I never got another dose. Took about 8 hours to get to 3 cm, then my water broke at 930pm & the pain began & intensified quickly so I got the epi at 4 cm, also got Pitocin drip. Felt good through most of the night, slept on & off, got to 7cm by 5am & that's when the pain returned as well as pressure. Progressed very quickly from there, had a bloody show at 8cm, got to 10cm by 730am, pushed for half hour & he was out at 804am. In total labor was 19 hours, all in all not that bad.
Good luck!!!!! Everything will be fine.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced twice for failing to progress and they both failed. After 60 hours in labor DS was born via C section.
I had no choice in being induced - my water broke and after 24 hours I hadn't dilated more than 1cm.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was successfully induced at 38 weeks bc of high blood pressure. I went into the hospital early on a Thursday morning. I was not dilated or effaced at all. I required 3 12 hour doses of cervadil which got me to about 2-3 cm dilatated, it was late Friday night by that point. My doctor broke my water and about an hour or so later I got an epidural, it was around 1am. I slept until about 6 am and was checked again and was 7cm. About 45min later I told them I felt a lot of pressure and when my doctor checked me Ds's head was right there. They got the room prepped and ready. I pushed three times took less than 15 min and he was here at 7:57am on Saturday.

Re: Talk to me about inducing.
I was induced due to low amniotic fluid. I got cervadil the night before and Pitocin the next day. Everything went smoothly. It was very painful and I got an epidural which helped me relax.
