Teaching a lefthanded child to write???

My daughter will be 4 years old in a few months. Her two friends who are of similar ages and right handed are already writing their names. I am not sure whether I should push her to begin writing. I am guessing that it is likely harder for her than a right-handed child.

Any advice or guidance?

I'm curious why you think it would be more difficult? I'm left handed and don't remember ever having a problem when learning to write. I would definitely start encouraging her to write her name. Start with her tracing it, then you could draw it in light yellow highlighter and have her trace that, then move to writing it freehand. My son was 3 going on 4, when he started pre-k and from the beginning they introduced writing. Never too young

I do sympathize with her for having to deal with finding a left-handed desk throughout her school career. They are hard to come by

I read some stuff that said it was harder because of the position it requires them to be in and how they are covering up what they write as they write. It also said that it requires them to push the pencil toward themselves which is different than a righthanded child. Clearly, I am righthanded and I don't understand this lefthanded world!

I'm left handed and don't remember it ever being an issue to write. I would just begin with her tracing her name and then move on to freehand. Same with practicing writing letters.

Just tilt the paper since she is left handed. Right handed people keep the paper straight, but you tilt it for left handed kids.

my daughter is left handed and they taught her how to write at preschool and she is doing very well with it in kindergardten. I don't think there were any special techniques used to teach her how to write and her teachers never expressed my DD have any frustrations or difficulty due to her being left handed.
