Q about food at a birthday party

I know this topic has been but I really need some guidance.
My son's 2nd birthday party is from 3:30-5:30, should I just be serving desserts (cupcakes, fruit platter, cake, etc) or should I serve pizza also??? DH says people will expect to be fed. I'm torn because it's smack in the middle of the day. What would you do? TIA!

I agree with your husband. Your guests will be hungry towards the end of the party. Pizza a must.

If the party is only 2 hours I think desserts are fine but maybe you can have a couple of small sandwich platters or appetizers as well. Let people pick rather than having a full meal.

Are you having it at a place where there's a time slot for food and cake? Is it at your house? I do think people expect pizza or something before cake. Most kid birthday parties are about 2 hours and include pizza with the cake. Kids are running around playing, haven't eaten lunch since around noon so the parents are thinking an early dinner. My boys sometimes have dinner at 5. If you do cake then send them home the kids won't want dinner then

I get how you think that the party is so short that you may not need "real" food, but I would get pizza also. You never know if people are going to come hungry or not.

Thanks guys, definitely ordering pizza also!!
It's at Gymboree, so we're getting about 45 minutes for food and cake.
