how old was your lo when you moved them from a crib to a toddler bed? how did you know it was time?

Did you wait until they were climbing out or made the decision on your own? What's the best way to help them transition? Thanks!

My son made up his own mind a couple of months before his 3rd birthday... We had gone away and he slept in my bed and when we got home he refused to sleep in his crib. We switched to a toddler bed which he didn't like either. So I put him in a twin bed a month after his 3rd birthday. Been in it ever since.

2.5 my ds would climb out of the crib...only in front of me which was weird but it got to the point I couldn't keep him in.
It went MUCH better than expected and I have twins that share a room. They never got out. Ds still doesn't
My dd just before 3 started getting out in the middle of the night but that has stopped.

I bought them the sleep buddy alarm clock which lights up all night and then goes off when they are allowed out of bed. That helped a lot with early am wake ups. They are reading books right now in their beds waiting for their light to go off.

3 years, 4 months. SHe could have kept going in her crib but we had a long break during the holidays to do the transition and thought it was a good time.

DS was almost exactly 2.5. he climbed INTO his crib one night while DH and I were cleaning up from dinner.
I was just glad he climbed IN, so he fell onto the soft mattress! he's really not a dare devil type kid, so we were surprised and didn't want to take any chances, so we converted it right then. he did awesome with the transition, and (knock on wood) has been sleeping great in the toddler bed for almost 9 months.

DD never climbed out, but at almost 2.5 we transitioned to a toddler bed. I'm due with #2 in March and wanted her out of the crib and fully used to the bed before he comes. She hated the crib and loved the toddler bed, so it worked out well for us. We hyped it up, and gave rewards the first week for staying in her "big girl bed." We also told her the crib was for babies like her brother when he comes. She ate it up, and has been successful in the toddler bed since mid Dec.

my son never tried to climb out of his crib... when we found out i was pregnant with #2 we moved him to a twin bed & he never looked back!! the transition was great!! he was a month shy of 3 years old

30 mos toddler bed.
34 mos twin bed with rail.

She's sleeping much Better in twin bed now.

We moved her a couple of month before her 3rd birthday. We had just potty trained so we decided to convert her crib to a full bed. We made a big deal of it being a big girl room and decorated her room with tinkerbelle stickers and she helped pick out her sheets. She transitioned fine at first and then a couple of days later she realized she could get out now and kept coming out. We stayed strong for a couple of nights and she went back to sleeping fine again.

Right at 2. He climbed out of the crib every day and I didnt want him to get hurt. He was in a toddler bed for a couple weeks and then we got a twin (car bed).

Not sure how old your child is, but stay with the crib as long as they aren'tclimbing out! I miss the containment.

We switched my ds at 2. He never climbed out of his crib. We moved him to a twin because he is a roller and IMO a toddler bed is too much like a crib.

2 years old.
she started to climb out. she did a lot better in the toddler bed. now at 3.5 shes in a twin.

My DD was almost 4. She never tried climbing out so we kept her contained as long as we could LOL! The only reason we switched herd was bc I got pregnant and could not lift her in and out.

DD climbed out twice in one night. That was enough for me! We transitioned right to a toddler bed with a rail and a baby gate in the doorway

We skipped toddler beds and went straight to twin beds. My kids were:
#1- 17 months
#2- 15 months
#2- 17 months

We moved DD#1 because we needed the crib for DD#2. We moved DD#2 because she hated the crib and refused to sleep in it. We moved DS#2 because he was trying to climb out.

DS #1 we moved right before he turned 4 from crib to twin bed. He never climbed out of crib and was very happy in the crib. We moved so it was a natural transition to get rid of the crib.
DS #2 was about a year and he went from crib to our bed lol

My twins first climbed out of their cribs at 20 months, and then started doing it consistently less than a month after turning 2. They moved to toddler beds then, and they did pretty well with bedtime. Naptime was a struggle though since they would play and jump around. And it's hard to reason with a 2 year old. If they never climbed out of their cribs, I would keep them in there for as long as I could.

KNOCK ON WOOD, he is almost 3 and still in the crib. Tried to climb out once a long time ago, and that was it. But we are going to start potty training april break, so we might transition him before then. To a twin bed, since we already have it set up and hopefully I'll be preggers by then.

DD was 2... She was a good sleeper and we were having DS so we figured why not? DS is now 2 and nowhere near ready. He doesn't go down easily (plays, talks, sings, jumps) so I don't trust him! I feel as though he'd get into trouble or danger if left with the freedom of a bed.
