Where to put car seat

I installed my car seat base using the latch system on my 2013 hyundai sante fe. I only have latch hooks on the passenger and driver side rear seats, not the center seat. I put the base behind the passenger seat. Everyone keeps telling me the car seat should be in the center seat. Then i would have to use a regular seat belt. Plus my back seat is split so the center seat and drivers side seat could fold down if I needed to put something big in the trunk without having to move the car seat. (Of course without baby in the car). Also I'm 5'10 so I'm afraid if i put the seat in middle I wouldn't fit back there with her if I was sitting in the back. I'm all paranoid now....I mean if I had two kids or twins one wouldn't be in the middle so I don't see the big deal if the seats on the side and not the middle.

Where to put car seat

Ok first of all tell everyone to shut up. Haha. Jk, kinda. The only thing you must do is make it rear facing. That's the law. Nothing else. Ours is also on the passenger side due to the latch system. For some cars its not always safest to be in the middle seat. You're fine.....

Re: Where to put car seat

Seat belt installation is just as safe as latch. So don't make that your deciding factor!

Basically, yes, middle may be safest in a crash for the majority of cars but what is safest is for the car seat to be used safely 100% of the time. So if you can only reach it from a certain spot, or if putting it on the side means less re-installing (and thus less chance for re-installation errors), then go with that spot! It doesn't matter where it is if you can't reach your kid ok and because of that, he's not all nice and tight in there!
