My Ped said that since neither of us have any allergies we could try peanut whenever we wanted.
This....exactly! We introduced it around 10 months....not as an everyday meal, but had him try it in a controlled environment (not on the run, or at someone elses house, or daycare or what not) so that god forbid he had a reaction, I was ready....  I'd rather not have the element of surprise!

What is your doctor's stance on peanuts?
My Ped. said we'd try it at about 15 months. So tell me, HOW do you do it? What if you see their lips swell and they have trouble breathing right away? Benadryl? Have 911 at the ready? I am so nervous

My ped gave me the ok at 1 to give peanuts. Even though yours gave the ok at 6 months, I would probably wait close to a year before trying peanut butter. Just to ease my mind.
Ditto. When I hadn't introduced by her 18 month appointment, she actually told me not to wait too long as it could increase her chance of allergy. We introduced it at the thai restaurant across the street from the hospital just to be safe

This is me too. DD is 26 months and I still haven't given her peanuts.  I'm petrified.

At my 8 month appt. they encouraged me to try peanuts. We did and it was all good!

I put a very thin layer on a piece of bread and had Benadryl in the house and my phone next to me.

Just be prepared but remember most kids are not allergic. My DS has a pretty severe peanut and tree nut allergy. As I first started giving nuts at around 2, at first I noticed some mild hives on his lips and chin. It got worse with each exposure. Then the last time, he started to cough and got severe hives on his face, head and down his neck. Ped said give Benadryl and bring him in right away, and obviously we took him to the allergist for testing then. Anyway, I would do it at home and have Benadryl on hand, know the correct dose. I refuse to give nuts to my younger DS now (20 months), I'm nervous after what I went through w my older one.

Some of the thinking of the recommendation is whether or not they would survive a severe allergy. At 2, their fragile airway is developed more to withstand anaphylactic shock and give more chance for resuscitation. At 6 months, not so much. I gave it around 15 months.

My ped originally said 2 years for peanuts, but at DD's 15 month appointment, he said that the recommendation had changed and that we could go ahead and give her peanut butter. She doesn't really love it, but I try to give her some every now and then, and thank g-d, no reactions.

my ped goes by current recommendation and after researching the issue myself - I was concerned if we waited to long it might trigger an allergy as research suggests.
So at 6 months I pureed some smooth peanut butter with a banana. I sat my son in his high chair and put the phone next to me. My husband and I literally had our jackets on, car keys in hand and DS jacket ready to go so if there was a reaction we would get him in the car and go straight to the emergency room. Probably a little overboard but it made me feel better.
In the end he was fine - no reaction. I did the same puree for 3 days in a row to make sure of no reaction. All was good and hes been eating peanut butter a few times a week since - one of his favorite foods.
ETA - I wish the peds/hospitals would offer a monthly or every few months where you could bring children to try nuts and have rn on staff with epi pens etc to make it easier that people could not feel so scared to try.
