5 month old sleep help

Hi,

I have 4 year old DD and a 5 month old DD. When my second DD was born (c-section), I went back to work part time a week later. Family helped and my husband was able work at home for the first 6 weeks. Anyway, because I was so tired and was/am breastfeeding, we have been pretty much co-sleeping with our baby since she came home. We have tried to put her in the bassinet (in our room), but it has only resulted in hours of crying. Weirdly, I will put her in the bassinet with a paci and she will drift off, but she wakes up very quickly. The record has been 24 mins. I won't do CIO yet, although I may at 6 months.

Here's what we have tried:
-Nursing her to sleep
-moving light night/light
-warming the sheet and putting it down first so she is not cold when we move her to the bassinet
-swaddling
-rocking her to sleep
-falling asleep in the bed and trying to move her
-comforting her in the bassinet as she cries.
-established bedtime routine

Any other suggestions? I ordered a crib soothie that attaches to the side and plays music, but haven't gotten it yet. We have not slept well since August! My first daughter was a great sleeper, so I am at a bit of a loss. TIA!

Have you tried putting her in her own room?

Re: 5 month old sleep help

I have a 5 mo old DD too with sleeps issues, so I feel your pain! Definitely move her out of the bassinet. She may be outgrowing it. Moving to her own room is a good idea too. Our DD slept in the RNP but because of flat head issue, dr wanted her on a flat surface so we moved her to the PNP. We moved when she was 4 mos and she just would no longer sleep in the PNP. I think the change in environment threw her. We figured it would be a good time to transition to the crib.

Start with changing where she sleeps and take it from there. Good luck!
