i was actually looking at this one! i don't understand why some of them are $179 and some are $279! is there a huge difference? in saftey because of the price? or do they just mark it up because they can?

also, does this car seat recline nicely? from the pics i can't tell and i don't want her to just be sitting up straight

I recommend going to Buy Buy Baby. They will bring the car seat out to your car so that you can see how it would fit. We really wanted the Radian, but once the BBB guy put it in our back seat, we knew there was no way we could buy it (it forced the front seat into the dashboard). We had him repeat this with several convertible carseats.

It will really depend on what kind of car you drive. We have the Britax Marathon, and yes, it reclines, but we can't adjust the recline and also have it installed properly (level) so I wouldn't worry so much about the recline when choosing your seat. Figure out what fits best in your car.

Convertible Car Seat Recommendations!

I have the Britax Pavillion and havent had any issues yet. My dd seems comfortable. Easy on/off with the harness. Has all the safety features. Ive always used Britax products since she was born (car seat and stroller were both Britax) so I continued using their products. I was very pleased with their quality and their customer service.
I had an issue with my stroller I called them and they sent me brand new parts immediately with no questions asked.

Re: Convertible Car Seat Recommendations!

None of the recommendations should be made without knowing the details of year and make of the car. Also are we talking forward or rear? How old is your child?

I do not recommend the Evenflo shown for many cars nor the Radian.

BBB does not have any techs and do not know installation for vehicles. Please let me know all the information and I can help.

We have two cars but mostly use our 2009 Acura floor for the car seat. We liked the Chico next fit.
she'll be 1 next month. 28inches long and about 20pounds
it would be used initially for rear facing and later forward facing

If you reread what I wrote, I was pretty clear about what the purpose of the BBB visit would be: it was to see how a seat would fit in a car. Where did I tell the OP that BBB has techs and/or do installation? Sorry, but I don't buy your constant selling of the need for a tech to install a carseat. As a matter of fact, the carseats you suggested to me were horrible fits for our cars.

The symphony can be a tough fit in some cars because of the way the latch straps are.. those giant push on connectors don't always work.

I really like the Chicco seats, the NextFit is nice. Also the Graco MySize/Size4Me/headwise (all the same seat just different names) is a great seat as well.

As far as safety, the $50 seats are just as safe as the $500 seats. What matters is that they are installed and used properly. The pricier seats tend to be easier to install and use, but that doesn't make them safer. And beware of any seat that is an all in one/3 in one RF to FF to Booster combo. They tend to be a jack of all trades, master of none. The Symphony tends to make a lousy booster.

The best seat, safest seat, is the one that fits your vehicle, your child, is installed properly and used correctly each and every trip. Both BBB and BRU usually allow you to bring the seat out to test fit in your vehicle. Neither store employs techs and they have given false information out to parents more than once. I've personally corrected bad information while in a store. Take their recommendations with a grain of salt, they often are told which seats to promote due to profit margins.

Techs are an INVALUABLE resource, and the vast majority are free to use, either because they volunteer or are provided as a community resource. Over 90% of carseats are installed and/or used incorrectly.
