Switching to Regular Milk from Formula - wy?
Just genuinely curious.
let me start this by saying that our pediatrician recommends transitioning from formula to milk at 11½ months by replacing one oz of formula with milk in her bottle every 3 days. That way by the time she is 1 year old she should fully be on milk and not formula.
Everywhere I read, it says you should wait till they hit 1 year old to transition.
But - is there really a good reason to switch over? i know she can't drink formula forever, but why is 1 the magical number?

I think because that's the age when more of their nutrition should be coming from foods as opposed to liquid. Formula is very filling and continuing to feed many bottles of formula a day might discourage a child from eating. I believe that in some circumstances ppl use toddler formula but I think that's if there are eating issues/weight issues.

Re: Switching to Regular Milk from Formula - wy?
There's no magic age, and those 2 extra weeks one way or another won't make a difference. If you want to start at 11.5 months, then do it then. Or 12 months. Or 12.5 months.
For us, DS is just so uninterested in his bottles. He's basically down to 2/day - wake up and bedtime. So I just have to make sure he's getting his nutrients from foods. We're going to start transitioning next week (11.5 months) because I think he'll enjoy milk better than formula and he already prefers food anyway!

what do you give him to drink for his lunch and dinner meals? the 2 week difference doesn't matter to me at all, i just didn't know why they recommened the 1 year mark to switch over

Switching to Regular Milk from Formula - wy?
1 year because its a nice even easy number to remember. Its not a magical turn over switch in their bodies. Its just an easy number.
I totally agree with NYCGirl80

It used to be 6 mo back in the day. I think it's b/c at 1 their sole nutrition should be from table food, but since toddlers don't always eat properly/are picky they still need the fat and dairy from milk until 2 for brain development. You can wait til 1 to transition if you want. We began at 11 mo. A lot of people transition b/c formula costs more.

There is no magic age like others said. We started at around 11.5 months. Our ped had us swap out one bottle a day for 4 days then add a second bottle and so forth.

He drinks water all day long from his sippy, as well as with meals. He loves water! Have never given him juice, and he won't drink formula with meals.

This is why. Its not that its a magical number. My dd didnt switch over to Almond Milk until 17 months. I tried reg milk at 15 months but she was still having issues tolerating the digestion of it. So my peds recommended waiting. We did I tried again she had issues so I switched to Almond Milk. Shes down to 2 bottles a day otherwise she drinks water all day. I still dont give her juice.
