switching from formula to milk
Hi, i was in need of some advice for my sister. Her daughter ( my neice) is getting ready to turn 1. So she recently spoke to her dr. about switching her from formula to milk.
But she wasnt to thrilled with the process they told her, so i was wondering if you can tell me how you transitioned your baby to milk
thank you

Re: switching from formula to milk
I did it slowly - for no reason other than I had a TON of formula to go through.
Let's say he took a 6oz bottle - 5ozs would be formula 1oz would be milk. For a week.
Then 4ozs formula - 2ozs milk the next week.
Again - I dragged it on because I had so much formula to burn through. I would think it could be done like that in a week.

Re: switching from formula to milk
My dr said to try 1 bottle at at time of whole milk. She said try that for a few days just to see if he had a reaction. She said if he resisted the milk (due to taste) then to try mixing the formula with the milk.
So we did try the 1 whole bottle of milk, he took it once and then the next day he tasted it and threw his bottle, wouldnt drink if for anything.
So we did mixing, we did 2oz of milk with 4oz of formula for 3 days then half half...we are still doing half half but basically thats because I am trying to use up my remaining 2 cans of RTF formula. But now DS will take a whole bottle of just whole milk with no protest.

this is exactly how I am doing it, and for the same reason (And also DS had a milk protein allergy so I wanted to take it slow) Now I am doing half milk half formula for a while.

Re: switching from formula to milk
DS was on 4 bottles a day so we switched out 1 bottle (midday) for milk for 2 days in a row. Seemed ok, so we did 2 milks (midday) two days in a row. Then I figured it was silly to do 3 since he was ok (though more BMs and more gas in the beginning) and we went straight to full milk by day 5.

Re: switching from formula to milk
I was giving formula bottles three times a day and BF once a day when it was time to go to milk. I just switched right over to milk all at once, except for the one BF. She loved it. This is what the dr said to do as well.
