Help!! Pumping Q - Tough it out?
I exclusively pumped and have very gradually stopped - I did 3x per day for about 6 months and then dropped to 2x a day, then 1x a day. I pumped on Saturday night and then Monday morning this week. Monday morning at 5:30AM was the last pump and I planned to quit altogether. I am in a bit of pain now - which I can stand - but I am worried about having issues. I feel very big lumps - which has happened before and I usually fix it by doing a long pump. Do you think I should just suck it up and wait this out - maybe take a pain killer - or should I do a quick relief pump? Will that just make things worse?

Don't wait it out if you feel lumps. If you don't want to pump fully pump a litlte or hand express to relieve the engorgement. You'll need to slowly get your body used to not producing milk.

I agree with PP. Pump for a couple minutes just to relieve the pressure feeling. Also try massaging in the shower. I used cabbage leaves for a couple days too along with tight sports bras.

You need to get rid of the lumps you feel. When I stopped pumping, I too got 3 "lumps" in what felt like 1 milk duct. They felt like little peas, all in a row. So painful, I couldn't even hold my son up to me. I took a hot shower and let the water beat on the area, and massaged the lumps. Then I squeezed, with a FLAT hand that spot, and the opposite spot of the breast. The milk flowed from that spot, in the shower and relieved the blockage. It didn't signal my entire breast to start flowing with milk again, but just cleared that duct.
