For ftwms who travel?

Going on a 3 day business trip in 2 weeks, just found out and am having a mild panic attack. My dd will be almost 9 months and this is my first night away from her. I held her last night and cried. Need tips to make it easier.

I cried too the night before I had to go on a business trip without DD.
I remember saying good night to her and walking out of her room and sobbing.
The hardest part is leaving but once you are there, it is much easier.
Can you skype with your DH and her at night?
DH would text me pictures and videos of her throughout the trip. That made it easier too.
It feels like the end of the world now, but once you are on the trip, you see it's not so bad. You will get through it!

I left AJ at 7m so I could interview for the job I have now in TX. I knew what I was doing was for the good of her and our family. I won't lie... I felt guilty but it was LOVELY sleeping alone in quiet.

I called her when I left, when I arrived, after dinner, before I went to bed, but she was in daycare during the day. Just like any other. I realized that being here vs there was no different to her at that age. I was grateful that I could do this while she didn't care at all. She had Daddy.

I am after all a military brat. My Dad left me for 9m a year. Way before cell phones and internet. So I just counted my hours to return. You know what, she was not different when I got home.

I have since travelled several times for work and each time I just call. I feel good she has Daddy and she knows I'm 'working' and its like school. I am grateful that its only a few days and I send my thoughts to the military families where its longer. I concentrate on the task at hand and make it home safely.

This is also why we never travel without her and we are always in the same city together. We don't vacation and leave her behind and no one is allowed to take her out of the city without one of us. Its our thing.

I ran out the door for my first business trip. DS was probably 10 weeks. I was excited to be able to sleep through the night.

Since then I have been on a few a year. Honestly its just a few days and I just called at night. I don't see or speak to my DS during the day anyway so it ended up not being that much different.

My DH is amazing with DS so I knew he was in good hands.

For ftwms who travel?

We plan to FaceTime. And its great for my career which means long term its great for my family. It just sucks. We have our morning routine and nightly routine and I'm just going to miss it.

I had to go to Arizona for work a week after I returned from maternity leave. I was practically hyperventilating every time I thought about it, and every time I looked at DD I felt so guilty--like I was a horrible mother! But I found the anticipation of the trip was much worse than actually being away.

I've been away for work many times since then and it's always harder before I leave than when I'm actually there. I enjoy my job and I know I'm doing a great thing for our family.

I call or Skype each night to see how their day was.

I kind of enjoy the night away - my DS 1 wasn't the best sleeper for a long time and still comes into our room at night so it's nice to have my own bed and no commute.

Just focus on the positives...like all that uninterrupted sleep you'll get! Being able to eat a full meal!

The first time away from DS he was barely 3 months old. I just got lots of pics, and then ran home aftewards. But honestly? It's only a few night and it's not that bad. It gets easier - same as going back to work.

I've travlled anywhere from 1-3 nights for work starting when DC was 9 months old.

She's so little the time will pass so quckly for her. You are being a wonderful role model for her
