Gates and pets
For those of you with cats, what do you do about the gates? We will be putting a gate at the top and bottom of my stairs but what happens with the cats?!?!

My cats squeeze under the gate. No issues. They aren't ones to jump over or I'm sure they could do that too.

Re: Gates and pets
Like PPs said, we put the gate up a few inches off the floor so our cat can go under. But for my ILs house, we bought gates that have a separate little cat door at the bottom- they're great!
Here it is on Amazon

We have gates that swing in and out and attach to the wall so there is no bottom bar and they are lifted about 5 inches off the ground and the cats go under.

I just saw this on zulilly and that's what sparked this. I was worried dd would try to crawl through that opening though and get stuck.
For those that the cats crawl under, you have it up a little bit?

We only have a gate at the top. DS closes it himself when we go up or if he ever sees it open he says uh oh and closes it. We never put one on the bottom.
WE don't have a cat but do have a dog. THe dog just stays up if we are up. Otherwise its not closed so he can go back and forth.

The bottom of my gates are right above the moulding. I'd say it's about 4 inches.

Re: Gates and pets
Mount it high enough for the cats to squeeze under (that is what we do on top/bottom of our stairs) . We do also have the other type of gate with the mini door where the litter boxes are. Needless to say DS crawls right on through hehe.

Yeah that was my worry with the little cat door. Dd would probably try to go through...we have a litter box upstairs and downstairs so even if the cats were on one floor there is always one.
