Child gates and pets....
Now that Ian and I will be moving in with my parents I don't know how to work the steps situation. Now we live in a ranch so I don't have to worry about steps. But my parents have a split and a dog. I'll obviously need the gate closed, but how will the dog be able to roam. What do you guys do about steps and pets?

Re: Child gates and pets....
Our dog is pretty much on the first floor all day, and goes up to bed with us at night, so he'll be fine when we put the gate up. The cat will have to figure something out though . She can get past the gate at the base of the stairs because she will go through the bars (we use the gate from time to time when we have company - we don't need it for DS just yet). When we put one at the top of the stairs, she's just going to have to pick a side and stay there all night.
Does the dog go up and down the stairs a lot? Or does it stick with one of your parents primarily (and can therefore sneak through when they go through)?
