Transitioning to crib woes...
DS is just over 2 months. He has been sleeping in his room in the RnP for a few weeks now and it's been going well, so we decided to transition to the crib. The first night he kept waking himself up from flailing so we swaddled him. He gave us a great 5 hour stretch, woke up to eat, and then wouldn't go back down and was up once an hour the rest of the night. The same thing last night - swaddled, took a bit to go down, slept 5.5 hours and then wouldn't go back down and was up once an hour for the rest of the night. He naps well in his swing during the day and is comfy in his RnP. I would think maybe it was too soon, except we're getting a good solid stretch out of him to start the night.
Should we just keep at it and eventually he'll settle in? Or should we do first half of the night in crib, and then after he wakes to eat switch him to the RnP?

Transitioning to crib woes...
Do you have to transition him now to the crib? My DS didn't go to his room till he was 4months old. It was a smooth transition (but not for me- I was a nervous wreck leaving him in another room!!!)
The only thing I can think of is maybe he doesn't like laying flat. You can try putting a crib wedge under the mattress so he's a little elevated. They sell them at BBB.

It sounds like you're off to a good start. I would probably keep putting him in the crib for the first part of the night and then move him to the rnp after the first feeding. Maybe wait a bit and then try putting him back in the crib after the feeding to see how he does.
We did the opposite with DD at first, put her int he bassinet and then moved to the crib during the night and she did well and moved fully to the crib within a week or two.

I think its a good transition so far and would never go back…..it only gets harder as they get older. And for a 2 month old to sleep 5.5 hrs is amazing. I would have killed for 3 hrs straight at that age.

Re: Transitioning to crib woes...
We let dd go into the rnp for the second half of the night after she got up for a feeding. As she slept longer stretches, she naturally "weaned" off of this.
We did this though with bassinet/rnp.
By the time we got to the crib at 3 mos. she was sttn in bassinet and it was an easy transition.

Transitioning to crib woes...
my DS started by sleeping around the same amount of time at your son's age....5.5-6 hours and now he's averaging 10-11 (he's almost 5 months now) so i really think your DS is doing great and i would keep up with the crib transition!
what kind of swaddling are you doing? a friend recommended the miracle blanket to us at that age and it was ah-ma-zing! i had only wished we had discovered it sooner. they are a little $$ but a fantastic investment! DS used to fall asleep before he was even fully wrapped in it!

I would just go cold turkey to the crib. The longer you stretch it out, the harder it will be. You'll have a few days of being up a lot, but if you wait until he's older to move him it will be even harder.

Re: Transitioning to crib woes...
Here's the thing....there is no right answer. Every baby is different. Since you are trying this out, give it a few more days. See how it goes. If after 5-6 nights, he's still waking once an hour after eating, I would just put him back in the RNP after the feeding. Try the crib all night again in a few weeks. But, maybe he'll surprise you and be able to settle down again in the crib in a couple of nights. The good thing is that as long as you can get a 2 month old to sleep, wherever that may be, you are doing a good job! He's so little, just getting that sleep in is the important part for his development.

when we did the transition I used a crib wedge and made a "nest" with rolled up receiving blankets under his sheet to replicate the cozy feeling of the rnp. As time went on, I was able to remove the extra stuff
