Flying with an infant?

Give me your horror and success stories and your best tips and advice! I am taking DS home to Toronto in January. It's a quick flight (1.5 hours) and he will be 3 months old. DH will be with me so I'm not alone or anything. I plan on wearing him in a wrap or carrier for the airport and flight, and borrowing most of the big things from my brother who has a 15 month old (carseat, pnp for sleeping, even their snap n go).

So come at me with everything I need to know about flying with an infant!

Honestly, that's the best time to fly! They are very portable

I believe you are BFing, so just nurse during takeoff and landing if he gets fussy or his ears hurt--otherwise the white noise from the plane should put him to sleep! I also put on an overnight diaper for the flight as its a bit more absorbant and that way I likely won't have to change a diaper mid-flight. And make sure you have an aisle seat in case you want to walk up and down the aisle a bit.

Just be aware on more than one occassion, I was told by flight staff that I had to remove my infant from the wrap during takeoff and landing. Not sure why, but just making you aware in case its difffcult to get on/off.

That age was easiest time for me to fly with DS. Just as the PP said... nurse or bottle feed when you take off and land. Also, the overnight diapers to absorb more.

Maybe a pacifier if you have one to suck on for their ears.

It's a fast flight too so you should be ok. Good luck.

if you have jon with you then youre good. I had two really easy flights with her in sept and nov. Feed him on the way up and down

Def the easiest time flying. You don't need much at all.overnight diaper is a great suggestion. I did that with my 7 month old. The yes the carrier needs to come off. Dd fell asleep before take of. They told me I had to take it off and face her forward. I was pissed b/c I just got her to sleep. So I took off one shoulder and kinda held her facing forward. It's very annoying. I the wrap my hands are free so you would think it's safer. Security was not a problem. They just asked for a female to "search" me while I wore her.

Just know you have to take baby out of a wrap or carrier for takeoff and landing. Basically, these are not crash tested and if there was some sort of incident, your weight could crush baby if they were attached to you. They're safer loose in your lap for that part.

You can wear them through security, but they will swab your hands afterwards.

Also, if your son is sleeping don't wake him up to feed on take off or landing. Healthy ears will adjust to the pressure just fine. Feed him when he's hungry, don't force the issue. My son has slept through take off and landing,no problems, even with an ear infection once.
