how did you 'introduce' the elf of the shelf?

I bought the dvd and will play that. Trying to get ideas for the first meeting!!!

I've had to introduce 2x.

First, DS was 4 and asked why we didn't get one because they discussed it in prek, so we got the book and elf and set it up.

Second, just this year, DS is 6 and I had him wake up Friday and do a scavenger hunt to find the new elf

DS is 3, and I'm doing it for the first time this year I'm gonna put it out tonight before I go to bed, and make it look like its reading the Elf on the Shelf book. so DS will see it when he wakes up. i figure since we don't have anywhere to be tomorrow, I can take time in the morning to read him the book ad explain the whole thing we'll see how it goes!!

I displayed it with the book - when the woke up in the morning it was there and we read the book to name it and explain what's going to happen over the next month! (I didn't display the box - bec I disnt want to ever handle the elf in front of them!

I told them Santa was sending a special elf to watch over them during the Christmas season, then thanksgiving night I read the book and Friday morning they went to find him. My dds are 3 1/2

I wrapped it up like a gift and put it under the tree (we put our tree up on black Friday) after they went to bed and attached a letter from santa explaining that he sent the elf to our house to watch them and give him a report every night on their behavior. It reinforced that santa was real and was gonna bring gifts. DS isnt scared of the elf lol but hes definitely conscious thats hes watching.

The movie was on Friday night and I knew my cousin, DD's godmother, who was coming to visit the next day was bringing it. So we watched the movie and then my cousin brought it over and told her that Santa delivered it to her to give to DD. DH read her the book and explained "the rules."
