What age for American Doll?
DD will be 3 first week in Jan. We get the American Doll catalogs in the mail and she loves them. She's actually sitting in her chair, flipping through one right now. She keeps pointing things out to me and saying, "I wish I could get that." Is it too early to start with these dolls for xmas or her birthday? They're not cheap, so maybe better to wait until she's older?

Re: What age for American Doll?
Honestly, I would wait until older.
I have a doll in storage (got it on crazy sale) that DD will have later.

Re: What age for American Doll?
i would try to wait too that is too young to start - my niece is 10 and is still into them. you will have a very expensive 7+ years i would hold out if possible
eta - if you look at their site, for ages 3 and up they have smaller baby dolls the big dolls are listed as gifts for ages 8 and up

Re: What age for American Doll?
I gave my niece one at 7. Perfect age.
I do think they have bitty babies now, though, maybe that is more age appropriate

What age for American Doll?
My DD has had the dolls since she was two, and has always been great with them. She started with a Bitty Twin (you can buy just one in the store), then added a big doll, some Bitty Babies, another Twin, and some more big girls. She is 6 and loves her dolls! I would start with a Bitty Baby doll, and the cute accessories, and see how she does!
Oh, and I would not go by the rec. age of 8. Most girls I know that have AG dolls are much younger than 8. 8 is probably when they are really into the books that come with the dolls.

Re: What age for American Doll?
DD was given one as a gift for her 2nd birthday. I felt she was too young so that Christmas we got her a Bitty Baby instead and I put the AG doll away. Now that DD is 4, I have given her the AG doll and she does play with it. For her birthday last month, I bought her an Our Generation doll from Target and interestingly enough, she plays with that one more than the AG doll . Maybe you can go that route since your DD will probably still not notice the difference. Then when she's a little bigger you can splurge on the AG doll. Or go the Bitty Baby route. DD still loves her Bitty Baby and plays with her all the time!

Re: What age for American Doll?
i say not too young if she is good with her toys (takes care of them, is not very destructive). If you're going to wait, I'd wait until maybe 5. I feel like 5 to 6 is the best age. I begged for one for the longest time and I didn't end up getting one until I was like 7 or 8. I played with it for 1 year and then I was totally over it. I kept saying to my mom, I wish you gave this to me earlier. My friends had them earlier and got a lot more use out of it.

My DD is 4 1/2 and doesn't have one yet. I would say 5 or 6.

What age for American Doll?
My soon to be 6 yrs old has one & she likes it but does not care for it well nor play a lot. If I didnt get is for 1/2 the price I would have waited till she was 7/8. Target has a similar doll ..Generation something..maybe get her that & see how she is with it.

What age for American Doll?
I got my soon to be 3 yr old DD a bitty baby, instead of the doll. I'd prob get her the doll closer to 5-6.

Re: What age for American Doll?
Thanks all! She is generally pretty good with her toys--especially her dolls. But I'll check out the baby line. She has so many baby dolls, I'm inclined to think she really won't know the difference between one of those and a cheaper one.

Re: What age for American Doll?
We started with the bitty baby and the bitty twins. My 4 year old has a just like me and Marie Grace. She is getting Kaya for christmas. She plays with them a lot and Is not interested in most other less expensive dolls. I don't mind though because she takes good care of them. She has boxes for the clothes and folds the outfits and is very careful with it all. The dolls and outfits hold up much better than cheaper versions we have had in the past. We get clothes as gifts. It really depends on the child. My 6 year old likes her AG dolls (Caroline and Saige) but only plays with them on occasion. She takes care of them but isn't as much into them. I hard they get back into them but not sure if that will be the case with her.

We started at 5. They are expensive, but at least they are good quality.

Re: What age for American Doll?
My DD just got a Bitty Baby Twin. She is 26 months old. She loves her. But she is definitely a little rough with her. I would definitely recommend starting with the Bitty baby first.

Re: What age for American Doll?
Chloe got Rebecca doll at the age of 2 but it was more of a collector piece.... She got a doll to play with last year for her 5th birthday. We did the entire American girl experience which is fantastic!
She loves her doll, in fact she is watching tv with it right now as we speak.
I did get her Accesories for Hannukah last night, a bed, the camper but I opted for target brand stuff. She ia also getting the hairstyling chair too.Much less expensive and she does not know the difference...
