Post- nasal drip causing coughing in two year old - what to give?

My DS has a cold. The usual stuffy nose combined with a runny nose at times. Yesterday, he started coughing. Today he's coughing more. He is acting fine otherwise.

I've been staying away from dairy and putting Vicks baby rub on his chest at night. Also, I've been using the saline nasal drops and clearing his nose.

What can I give him for his coughing?

What have you moms used for a Cough?
I really think it's being caused by the post nasal drip going down his throat...

Obviously if it lasts for more than a week, I will take him to his pediatrician.

My dd has a nasty cough and the only thing that seems to help is the vaporizer with the Vicks added. Her room is nice and toasty and it seems to help with the breathing and coughing.

My dd suffers from the post nasal drip all the time. Ped suggested I use the Saline nasal spray to help dry it up.

Talk to your pediatrician about Flonase or using benadryl

I would do nothing. My DS has post nasal the cuses a bad cough with every cold. It passes.

Vicks on feet, humidifier, saline spray and honey all help. I like the Hylands cough syrup in a pinch, it's all natural. Benedryl if they are very congested. I think it was a 1/2 teaspoon for that age but ask your ped.

My oldest suffers from bad post nasal drip when be gets cold. We were told to use benadryl-d during day & reg benadryl with mucinex at night. The benadryl.dries up the mucus.

I also use Nasonex, humidifer, vicks on feet with.socks & on.his chest.

we do steam in the morning , it helps get up all the mucus that accumulated during the night.
I run our shower hot (with no fan on) let the room get steamy and stay in for a short amount of time. Then i do the saline spray. This also helped me when I had it.
dd also was proscribed nasonex this year. shes 3. Her cough can get bad and usually requires a medication and inhaler.

I have the Vick's vaporizer and turn that on at night. I also put Vick's on her chest and back...And keep sucking out those boogies.

For post nasal drip Benadryl works great to dry it up..
You have to get the correct dose from your ped though- the label doesn't have a dose for under 4 years old.
You can just call them and they will tell you.

Also, Zarbees- the honey cough syrup- it really soothes the throat and it's all natural, no drugs.
