If you have or had a noisy sleeper - especially at the beginning...?

How did YOU learn to sleep through it? DS is so far (fingers crossed) a decent sleeper at night, but he's such a noisy sleeper - he coos, grunts, sometimes goes eh eh like a cry is starting but then settles. So while HE is sleeping, I am not. We have him in his nursery in the RnP, the door to the nursery opens up directly to the door to our room so it's right there, and I have a monitor next to me in bed. I want to take advantage of his longer sleep stretches at night but I find myself either staring at the monitor or running into his room every few minutes. Any tips?

No tips. I was and am the same. Even when dd is super quiet then that makes me nervous too. I find myself staring at the monitor at her chest to see movement. Or even when I sleep I'm anxiously awaiting for when she wakes up.

The coos, grunts, etc do go away after a couple of months. Then they are out like rocks.

DS is almost 2 and I still hear him down the hall in his room. Its just part of being a mom...you get super hearing and will never sleep through anything again in your life. LOL

We have a white noise machine in DD's room and another in ours on DH's side of the bed. It helps all of us sleep and drowns out the little noises. If I were you I would also turn off the video. We only had an audio monitor until recently and I still rarely use it.

I find you have to consciously let yourself not hear it. I'm the lightest sleeper in the world and everything wakes me up, but eventually you will hear the baby, check on the monitor and go right back to sleep. When DS was first born I'd sit up all night listening to him. As he got older, you aren't worried about every little noise. You'll know when the baby needs you and that will wake you up, not the little noises.

Also, try turning the volume down on the baby monitor. He'll let you know when he needs you.

LOL AJ is five and I still occassionally SHAKE her and sternly say into her face "AJ!" cause holy crap she scares me because she sleeps sooooooooooooooooo quietly. I can't even see her breathing (very shallow and slow, long breaths). Poor kiddo. Since she was a baby she's given me bad dreams with that quiet sleep. Its why I got the Angle care monitor. It 'ticked' with every breath so i could sleep at night. I got so used to it, I couldn't sleep well when she was at auntie's house because I didn't hear the ticking! LOL

Turn off the monitor. If he's really awake and crying you'll hear him. Also white noise.

My ds is 18 months old and I only use the monitor in the summer as we have window ac and I can't hear him with those running and the doors shut. Otherwise, no monitor. The crying wakes me from down the hall.

I dont know how i got used to it, i guess my body just recognized, over time, when it was an awake noise vs an asleep noise.

in the beginning when she was in rnp, she slept in living room, I couldn't have her next to me in the bedroom. We didn't use monitor until she began sleeping in her crib around 12-15 wk. then the solution was white noise.

Agree about the white noise machine - allowed me to sleep better by drowning out the little baby sleep sounds, & turned DS into a sleeping champ at a few weeks old!

Ugh..no tips but I know the frustration. DS makes all the noises that you said. He's now sleeping in his own room in the crib and grunts a lot less. We think he felt squished in his rnp. Does he still make those noises when he is asleep in other things?

This was Brielle! I had even posted about it. It eventually subsided. And as time went on I got used to it. I would get up and check at every grunt at first. I think the sound machine helped ME sleep through it.

i would turn the volume to the monitor off - but have it on in case you want to turn on the picture when you roll over in the middle of the night

also try a white noise machine

We moved him out of our room after 3 horrible weeks of neither of us sleeping. I'm sure half the time I thought he was "awake" he wasn't and was actually waking him up. We moved him to his nursery across the hall and have never owned a monitor. When he really needed me I had no problem hearing him but it stopped the constant checking/paranoia and getting up at every coo/grunt/wimper etc. when he was really sleeping!
