I so dont know what to do...

Ok so I have been coming here asking opinions / do polls on doctors, 2nd opinions all that fun stuff....here is where we are at:

The anesthesiologist was concerned because my son just got over being sick (first with an ear infection, then wheezing along with croup, then he got adenovirus (which is ear/eye infection with wheezing)
so she wanted to wait as long as possible to do the surgery....the orthopedic said he could only wait 2 more days! So he is scheduled for Thursday

I am completely freaking out! I called ds ped to get her opinion and to be honest Im really annoyed with her....I have called there 3 times...first letting them know he broke his elbow, 2nd to ask for referral and 3rd to ask her opinion on what the anesthesiologist said....everytime the nurse called back WTF shouldn't the dr call me!
Anyway I was planning on bringing him in to ped today just for piece of mind and have her listen to his lungs and make sure hes not wheezing (I don't think he is but I need someone to tell me hes ok)
Then last night and the night before he had some diarrhea although he did eat a lot of chilli and beans so I wasn't too concerned until at 2am he vomited on him self! Not a lot but none the less he vomited a little (never done that before)
WTF!!!! what do I do????

Uggh, sounds like you guys can't catch a break at all. I would maybe try calling the anesthesiologist and seeing what she says about his latest symptoms. I would probably go with her opinion on whether or not she's comfortable with him going through surgery right now. As annoyed I would be at the ped, they're not surgeons and don't deal with this stuff on a daily basis so it wouldn't be the opinion I would trust most. I would talk to the anesthesiologist and the surgeon and let them know your concerns and that you really need them to walk you through the options and the pros and cons of going ahead vs waiting.

Unfortunately I believe his elbow is time sensitive...if we wait any longer the bones will heal as is...the surgery was just to put pins in but it was still under general anesthesia
I was just going to bring him to the ped for to make sure the wheeze was gone and the ears are good...I don't know what the vomiting was about last night though...he barely even woke up but it was all over his shirt

With surgery I'm always most concerned with the anesthesia, so I would probably do what the anesthesiologist says. The surgeon can't wait any longer? I would def call both of them and let them know all of his symptoms.

I would be irate with your ped!! No excuse for him/her not calling you back for any question you have let alone SURGERY! I'm sorry you're dealing with all this, you're in a tough spot

I would get a new pediatrician and seek a second ortho opinion. Does your ortho know the anesthesiologist did not clear your child for surgery? Is he planning on using another anesthesiologist? Did the surgeon give you any paperwork for your ped to fill out that says your child is cleared for surgery?

Not much to offer except I feel your frustration to some degree... Can you see an other ortho? Maybe the best thing is to see the pediatrician - and if they don't return your calls - then just show up!

I would just be worried that the anesthesiologist is concerned. Especially since its a child.
The anesthesiologist can refuse to do the surgery and then the ortho will have to wait...

The anesthesiologist did speak with the doctor and they both agreed that they were ok with waiting until Thursday. But now with him vomiting last night I don't know what to do...He seems fine this morning not much of an appetite but did eat some. His tummy might have just been upset he pooped but it was quiet loose still but like I said he ate a lot of chilli/beans the night before last...I don't know

The more I keep thinking about his ped the more annoyed I get. We were in her office 9 times in 2 weeks (between my son and dd) plus my son had to get injections of meds because he refused to take them orally then this happened. Yes the nurse did call me back but the nurse is not his doctor and after all he's been through the past few weeks she should have picked up the phone

The vomiting should be ok.

Your anesthesiologist is concerned about your kid's airway being reactive because of the head cold. That would normally get you 2 weeks, but it sounds like they both agree the kid has to be done!

Call your surgeon and let him know about the vomit and let him touch base with anesthesiologist. Give lots of fluids and gentle food (rice, chicken).

So sorry you are going through all of this. Was your son on antibiotics? Could be the reason for the loose stools and quesy stomach. That will not affect his surgery.

I would def bring him in to the ped for clearance...he doesn't need that before surgery? Maybe bc it was so quick? But I would def. mention to the ped how upset you are that she never got back to you.

I took him to hid ped for clearance and piece of mind...
Doctor said everything looks good and as far as the vomiting that as long as it doesn't happen again that she thinks he will be fine for surgery
Once I got in the car I realized I never said anything to her about not returning me calls...oh well...really not what is on my mind right now
I just cant believe my baby is having surgery tomorrow

Sorry haven't been on to update
The surgery went well...loved the anesthesiologist that did the surgery. She did a nerve blocker to his arm and then didn't put a tube down in throat just into the back of it.
He woke up miserable but ok...I was able to take my daughter trick or treating but got a panic call from dh...apparent nerve blocker wore off and ds was inconsolable, banging on his arm and unraveled half the soft cast managed to put it back on, pain meds in and he slept but in the morning again he kept pulling off the cast so yesterday I had to go back up so they could put the hard cast on

He's doing good but I do have to keep up on the pain meds almost every 5 hours. The dr said not to let him go into pain in order to give him meds...just give it to him every 4-6hours regardless so to keep on top of it....I just don't know for how many days. He does seem to wake or fuss about every 5 hours
