Escape ladder

Does anyone have a home escape ladder? I would like to get one for my son's room and was considering the dial 2 story ladder. Anyone have a ladder they would recommend?

Re: Escape ladder

I bought 3 Quick Escape brand ladders for my house 4 years ago. One for each occupied bedroom.
http://www.amazon.com/QuickEscape-QFL12-Two-Story-Portable-Emergency/dp/B003RRY6W6/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hi_8

At the time, they were one of the only ones that were completely metal (I was concerned that some of the cheaper ones that used nylon straps might melt from the heat.), and were reusable. Some of the ones I saw said for one-time use only, so if you wanted to do fire drills in your house with the ladders, you either had to buy a practice one that you never used in a fire, or not practice with the ladder.

For my house, I couldn't use a rigid ladder like the Dial, since I have a bay window below DS's room, and it needs to work around that. I also like the 1000 lb capacity over the 600 lb, since an average fireman with full gear can weigh around 300 lbs, and I'm over 200, so we're not talking about a big margin of error if I had to get carried out. I know it's a very slim to almost zero chance of a fireman using my home escape ladder, but if I had to carry someone else out of the house before the firemen came, their could be weight limit issues.

Those are just the thoughts that go through my head when I bought them. Doesn't mean they are right or wrong, just what I used to buy my ladders. Any ladder is tremendously safer than no ladder at all.
