Six-month old starting solids
I feel very confused about how much and what to feed ds. I waited until 6 months to give solids, although I did give an occasional oatmeal. I am nursing. So, at his 6 month appt. he weighed in at 14lbs and is 25.5 in. My dr. wasn't concerned at all because he is healthy and looks good. Ofcourse, I worry he is too thin. Anyway, I am confused since all drs. say different things. Mine said start mixing cereal and fruit. One jar of fruit a day. Then, in a month start vegetables. She said it is best this way because veggies are gassy. I really feel conflicted. I almost want to say screw it and just give him as much as he wants and whatever he likes. Opinions? Thanks!

I would give what you want. As long as your LO doesn't have a sensitive tummy I don't see any reason to worry. My ped wasn't specific at all so I gave oatmeal and then moved on to fruits and veggies in whatever order I wanted. I made a lot of DD's food and used the wholesomebabyfood.com site as a reference for what were good first foods. I also gave jarred sometimes but always checked to see what were sold as stage 1 for ideas of what to make.

Start with whatever you want. Just wait 3 days before giving something new for allergy reasons.
As for being too thin.....my DS started solids at 4 months and is less than 5% for weight. Always has been. I worry about it but the Dr doesn't. He said as long as the weight % remains constant then its not an issue. My DS is not even 23 lbs at almost 2 years. He wears 12 month pants because he is sooooo skinny.
I wouldn't worry too much about the weight. Just feed what he eats.....if he wants more always give more but don't worry if soemtimes he eats and sometimes he doesn't. they are just like us and our appetites change.
