OB/GYN closer to home or hospital?
Hey everyone!
So, DH and I are trying for our second baby. I delivered DS at Good Sam and although I absolutely love my doctor, I really did not have a good experience there. (My labor experience was wonderful but my recovery sucked.)
Unfortunately, my doctor only delivers at Good Sam, so now I need to change doctors. I have friends who have delivered at Katz Women's Hospital and have had wonderful experiences there and that is where I'd like to deliver.
I am looking for a OB/GYN who delivers there, BUT I live in Massapequa. I'm finding that all of the doctors that are recommended to me (& the ones my friends have used) are all in the Manhasset area. I currently work in Mineola so going to doctor's appointments there wouldn't be too bad, but it's still not too close to home.
So my question for you is--- do you think it's better to find a doctor that is closer to home or 1 that is closer to the hospital??
TIA.

OB/GYN closer to home or hospital?
I based my decision on what doctor to chose based on what hospital they are affiliated with.
If you live in Massapequa (like me :)) I highly recommend Dr. Lauren Bashian - I just saw her for the first time on Tuesday, she delivers @ NSLIJ, and she was amazing. She comes highly recommended on here as well, a lot of girls like her.

I also chose based on affiliation. When I was pregnant with DS, I chose an OB affiilated with Winthrop who was also recommended to me by others. Although I live near Massapequa as well, my OB is in Mineola and I work near there. I just used to go to appointments right after work.

Re: OB/GYN closer to home or hospital?
I saw Dr Frenkel in Bellmore, Bashian's associate and loved them. Delivered at LIJ which I also loved. I live about 25 mins away from LIJ. The only difficult part about having the hospital be that far away was bc my baby stayed in the NICU after I was discharged. But it's really a wonderful hospital so to me it was worth it.
Frenkel was awesome. She was there whenever I needed her. Even texted me while I was in the hospital!

OB/GYN closer to home or hospital?
i agree with others that you should pick based on hospital affiliation - esp since you were unhappy with your last hospital
after the dr met that criteria, i would choose one closer to home. it makes it easier for appointments. most likely, you will not have the need to go from the doctor to the hospital

OB/GYN closer to home or hospital?
I live in Farmingdale and go to Women 4 Women -- its a practice of 4 female OB/GYN's and 1 female nurse practitioner. They only deliver at the Katz's Women's hospital at LIJ. I see Dr. Nicole Bell and she is fantastic. They are located right next to the hospital (literally) at 410 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park. While a little bit of a hike from Farmingdale, I work close by and when we conceive, I will schedule all appointments for right after work -- that way I can just buzz over and it will be convenient!

Re: OB/GYN closer to home or hospital?
I would say choose the doctor you trust the most regardless of hospital affiliation. I saw a Dr in walking distance to my house affiliated with a hospital within 30 min but decided if my life or baby was unexpectedly in danger i didn't trust her to save us. I think LIJ is a reasonable distance from Massapequa though.

I would choose based on hospital. My ds had some problems and the hospital staff did not treat him correctly and we Wound up getting transferred to another hospital.

i chose close to home plus it was the best hospital IMO...I don't think Mineola is too crazy far from Massapequa but I would go where you feel most comfortable.

OB/GYN closer to home or hospital?
I picked an OB closer to home so I could go home and shower before my appointments after getting off of work(work in Mineola and live in Baldwin Harbor). I too used Dr Bashian and Dr Frenkel and they are affiliated with LIJ. Just had my DD via csection 6 weeks ago.
