Nursing/pumping overnight
As your DC starts sleeping longer at night, what do you do to alleviate the fullness you get overnight? I wake up every night at 2am to pump. If I don't, by 3am I am completely plugged up. I pump from 2-2:45, and then go back to bed. It usually takes me 30-45 min to fall back asleep, and then DD is up at 5 to feed. I would like to start sleeping longer because getting 5-6 hours of sleep every night is starting to make my brain less functional.

Can you pump right before you go to sleep for the night?

I would start going a little long each night, so tonight go around 2:10-2:15, then 10-15 minutes later each night. Do you do it because you are not making enough, or because you are uncomfortable? If only for comfort, then just stretch it to later each night and pump for less time. I never pump for than 20 minutes, and usually only pump for 15.

i had the same trouble going back to sleep
i would only pump for 15-20 mints though and tried to push it back as long as possible

I feed her until she is asleep and then pump until I feel empty. That won't get me through the night.

Thanks. I was thinking this might be the best option but wasn't sure if 10-15 min each night would be too fast. I pump bc I am uncomfortable. I pump until I feel empty.

Don't pump! You're just sending a signal to your body that it still needs to make milk at that time - hence your pumping is totally counterproductive! You'll wake up full (even leak) for a few nights, but your body will quickly adjust.

ITA! No need to pump. One of my twins has just started to STTN, so his breast is soooo full and leaky when I wake up. Within the next few days, my body will stop producing so much overnight. It's all supply/demand and your body will adjust after each dropped feeding.

ITA. I suggested going longer between pumping and pumping less so her supply goes down slowly and it is not painful.
