Re: at what age
DS1 has been in daycare since 3 months so he's been learning the letters and his name early. I remember around 2 him knowing all the letters and able to spell his name (not write it so much, but try).
He's 4 now and can write his name, but not 100%. His "s" looks like a "z" He's getting better now at putting it in order bc they practice it in school. Before he could spell his name, but letters all over.
My 2 yr old doesn't know as much and some letters. I'm not as good with him and teaching and he's not in daycare. I teach him some stuff, but also hard bc now I work part time at home.

DS could recognize letters around 2 1/2. He's really just starting to write them now (I think it's a function of his teachers/class size at daycare - the first 3 year old room was useless in terms of learning). He'll be 4 in December but, has 2 more years of pre-school since he's old for his grade so I'm not concerned at this point.

Re: at what age
DS could recognize most letters by around 2.5, even out of order... like just showing him a flash card, or asking him "what letter do you see?" on a sign or whatever. He'll be 3 in November. We haven't worked on writing letters at all yet... but he can finish spelling his name outloud if you say the first letter... he's in nursery school 2 mornings a week, so I imagine soon they'll start working on some of this stuff there.

Kieran recognized letters by 2.5, could spell his name just before turning 3, and is just now beginning to write some letters at 3.5.

DD is 17 months and knows most of the letters. She's obsessed with an alphabet puzzle and picks up the letters and tells us what they are. She gets confused with some of the similar looking ones still but she's getting there. She also has a number puzzle and knows all of them. Obviously she's not writing them yet though!

Re: at what age
Emerson : around 22m could recognize letters and recite the alphabet. She could recognize her name around 3 but just recently in the last couple months is able to spell and write her name. She practices on her own now and can write almost the entire alphabet.
Peyton- is 2.5 and while she can recite the alphabet has zero interest in actually learning what the letters are
