3 Parts to an NCT Test?
I thought there was only 2 (blood and scan) but the place I'm going to have it done at asked me to ask my dr if he wants me to have the 3rd part done.
When I asked I didn't understand the jargon so kind of tuned out (bad I know haha).
anyone know what the 3rd part is?

Re: 3 Parts to an NCT Test?
For me there was blood and scan and then follow up blood a little while later - so could that be the third part? I think it was 2 weeks later we did the 'second half' of the bloodwork?

3 Parts to an NCT Test?
i was told that the AFP scan is the 2nd part of the NT Scan... maybe they consider the NT Scan, Blood and then the AFP as the 3rd part?

3 Parts to an NCT Test?
So I went for an early anatomy scan today and then met with the dr. Last month I did the NT scan and they did the finger prick. Today they did another finger prick. Maybe that's the 3rd part?

According to what I was able to find from doing a little research the three parts to the NT test are the ultrasound to measure the neck folds and two blood tests: PAPP-A and hCG. The blood for the two test is collected by a finger prick. (http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/healthlibrary/conditions/pregnancy_and_childbirth/common_tests_during_pregnancy_85,P01241/) The finger prick that is done with the anatomy scan is the quad (second trimester) screen.

Hmmm they told me today that it was part of the testing for down syndrome.

Hmmm they told me today that it was part of the testing for down syndrome.
The quad screen looks for Down's syndrome and open neural tube defects--The test measures four substances: AFP: alpha-fetoprotein is a protein that is produced by the fetus
hCG: human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone produced within the placenta
Estriol: estriol is an estrogen produced by both the fetus and the placenta
Inhibin-A: inhibin-A is a protein produced by the placenta and ovaries Here is a good explanation of each thing measured and how the levels are interpreted: http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and+Interpretive/81149
