Best Luggage?

We need to invest in new luggage.

We received Samsonite for our wedding 5 years ago and every single piece is damaged. I will never buy this brand again - piece of crap.

DH and I travel a bit for business so we can't look all ghetto with duct taped bags.

What brand do you recommend?

What about international-sized carry-ons?

We will need 2 new carry-ons and one larger sized bag and maybe one of the garmet bag styles. Looking for lite (so we can pack more!) and spinner wheels.

Re: Best Luggage?

I need some also. I've been looking at ebags.com. There are reviews on some of them.

Re: Best Luggage?

I would go to home goods/marshals and find something on sale. Based on what I see I would pick one with wheels that spin in all directions, is not the most enormous one as that will likely be oversize now, and light weight. They don't really last that long these days. With that said, I would see if samsonite has any kind of warranty to see if you could return it - if you feel it did not last to your expectations. 5 years does not seem so long to me unless you are using it every few days and then I could see it wearing out and needed new.

Re: Best Luggage?

Dh and I bout a set by Atlantic in 2008, which we use at least twice a year. It is a little beat up, but still holding up. Bout it at Macys on sale and with a coupon. The two larger bags were about 125 each and the two smaller 100 each. They are larger than roll on though but with spinner wheels and internal/external pockets. Both sizes have a lid that flips open to use as a garment holder -I have had DH's suit folded up in this thing and my dresses. The lid can also unzip to add an inch of space.
The bags are light when empty which is a big plus. The handles and grips are comfortable and there are separate straps to piggyback other bags.
For work travel I have a small Revo roll on also from Macys. Not a spinner but that is fine.

Best Luggage?

I just recently purchased our luggage from hsn. Someone might think its strange that I bought off of the tv but the luggage we bought is beautiful and got very good reviews. Its the samantha brown croco embossed luggage. We're going to the dominican republic in november so that'll be my first trip with the new set, so hopefully, it'll live up to the reviews.

I don't have it, but I have heard a lot of good reviews- Rimowa. I think hard covers hold up better.

I swear by Delsey. They are marketed as "ultralight" we travel a lot and 4 years later they still look brand new.

Re: Best Luggage?

We have been really happy with the Kirkland luggage from Costco. link They come in two sizes and I think the larger one now has spinner wheels.

For non-wheelie carry-on bags, check out Tom Bihn.

Re: Best Luggage?

I love my Victorinox luggage. A bit pricy, but the best suitcases I've ever owned.

I like Atlantic. We have had them for years and they are great. My parents use that same brand and travel 3-4 times a year over seas and on cruises and they hold up great!

No matter what you get it really depends on how they are handled by the airlines and cruiseships. Even the best brands will get damage if they are rough enough. How frequently you have to replace it will depend o. How often you use it and how much wear and tear.

We also like delsey. Hartman and tumi are good too.

Several of our friends have and rave about Rimowa.

We just bought a new set of tumi ultralight. We like the modern look and the light weight of it.

Rimowa is the best luggage you can get but unless you travel A LOT, I don't see the need to spend that kind of money. I'm obsessed with their pieces but for now I have my delsey. I bought a samsonite 2 weeks ago and didn't use it for my trip because when I got home, my delsey was bigger lol. ive had it for 8 yrs

Re: Best Luggage?

my Uncle used toe be a baggage handler -
He said expeisnve luggage is a total and complete waste of money b/c they abuse the hell out of it.
They just pick it up and throw it - it lands on the ground, gets scratched, scuffed, sometimes broken into and ripped ........

I have Samsonite. I've bought all of our luggage in Marshalls - I've had it for years - I"m sure it's taken some serious abuse but it's still good as new.

DH and I got a Delsey set as well when we got married and it's held up pretty well. It's been over 6 years and it still looks great.

This is the set I have and I LOVE that duffel bag! You can fit so much (I am an overpacker LOL) in there and it has wheels and a handle so it's very easy to move around.
