Walking Shoes?

My dd is 15 months and has been walking for about 3 months now. Shes very stable on her feet. Borderline running half the time LOL

Im getting mixed info from different people and wanted some input from more moms...

I initially when to stride rite and they measured her and said she was Step 2. I went back yesterday because shes outgrowing her shoes and they said she is Step 3. I was surprised she was step 3 because it says step 3 is running jumping and climbing which she is not.

Then some of my friends say at this point she doesnt need 'walking shoes' since shes totally stable and I can put any kind of sneaker on her like a Nike or something.

But I dont totally agree with that I think she should still be in a walking shoe. I THINK??? I have no idea! All I know is I dont want to mess with the development of her feet.
Should I just call my peds and see what he recommends?
What do you ladies do?

THANKS!

Re: Walking Shoes?

I don't know... I feel like Stride Rite peeps really know their stuff.

Call the ped anyway.

Re: Walking Shoes?

Maybe put Nike sneakers on her at a store and let her run around and see how she does? I perused the site and it looks like the step 3 is like a regular sneaker for kids who are on the move, jumping, etc.

Walking Shoes?

I think a Step 3 is appropriate for a child walking 2 months - Step 2 is more for early walkers/cruisers.

I would say a Nike Sneaker is comparable to a Stride Rite Step 3. My kids first shoes were Sauconys (which were in the stride rite step 3 category).

I think the reason why a lot of people start at Stride Rite is to make sure the foot is sized appropriately...

Re: Walking Shoes?

My dd is 16 months, has been walking for 2 months. I still prefer a more flexible sole simply bc she is a runner and I'd rather not see her fall flat other face (something she'd prob do more often in a stiffer sole). She does have both types of shoes though and does fine in both. Go with your mommy gut Chat Icon

Re: Walking Shoes?

I went to Stride Rite when DS first started walking and had him measured.

Then i bought all his shoes at Target, Old Navy, Kohls and anywhere else that was at over half the price of what Stride Rite charged. The first shoes were more flexible soles, and gradually he grew to be able to wear more rigid ones.
He never wore the traditional higher walking shoes
Considering how fast the feet grow, i can't justify paying well over $30 for a set of shoes that will be worn for 3 months. His feet and walking developed just fine according to our ped
