For me that was the worst part of pp recovery- waay worse than the episiotomy which healed within days. I never had a hem before until I pushed out ds1. My God it was horrible. I used tucks and a suppository. I even used ice. Took about two weeks to become bearable. Imo it's time more than treatment that you really need. You can have the Dr provide treatment, but I think that's for very severe cases. They can cut the blood clot out. After u heal, there will always be a spot where the clot was- like an empty stretched vessel, just waiting for another clot. The dr can shoot a tiny rubber band around it to make it fall off. I never did anything about mine. It came back once a few years later (oddly enough NOT when I pushed ds2) but it was nothing like the first time and caused discomfort for a few days.

I didnt and I had them bad. I just treated them at home. Tucks pads & cream, hot showers. Also a sitz bath (used pan hospital gave me) all those helped. Keeping them clean is key and try to rest as much as possible, standing just pools the blood in the inflamed vein. After about 2 weeks mine subsided. they will always be there just not so puffy and irritated.

I sat on my boppy pillow when I wasnt using it to nurse. I would put tuck pads on my pad. and after 1-2 weeks in the shower I just pushed in back in and I felt sooo much better.
People never talk about this part!!!

I got a donut which helped. I also used round cotton pads drenched in witch hazel and stored in the fridge. I then used the ointment the hospital gave me on them. The nurse at the hospital said this was a cheaper and just as effective way to treat them instead of buying tuck pads at the store.
It def helped.
I'm 15 days pp and I started to feel better about 9 days pp. I had my first bm about 5 days pp which didn't help.

Oh, if your not already taking colace or dulcolax (sp?), start taking it ASAP.

if you have one pushed out, it will never go away. you can push it back in but it may pop back out at any time.

mine are always there but they only bother me sometimes. so when its bad i use tucks wipes, prep h cream, hot showers and i try to sit more often (its a good idea to sit on something like the boppy or a maternity pillow). sometimes its just unbearable. but then it gets better for awhile until it flares up yet again.

good luck

Tucks pads, prep H, rest, hot water sitz bath (as hot as you can stand it 3x a day), cold packs (and/or frozen witch hazel pads) to sit on and if its bad enough, get a script.

I was told not to sit on a donut as it applies more pressure to the area. It's best to lay down. Put your feet up.

Be sure to take the stool softener and drink plenty of water.

Go get phillips milk of magnesia, put it on a cotton pad on top like would do with the witch hazel pads. It works like a charm! My midwife recommended it. Better than any of the above.

This is what I did and it helped.

As someone else said, nobody talks about this part and this was THE WORST part for me. It took probably a month for it to go away. All of these methods did provide some relief. I also used Prep H suppositories in addition to the prep H cream.

tucks pads and prune juice.

the tucks pads soothed the pain and pressure. i drank about 4oz of prune juice each day. it didnt send me running but it helped move things along with ease so i didnt need to put pressure on that area.

mine lasted about a week.

good luck & feel better
