Flying with infant

I know this has been asked many times before, but does anybody have any tips for flying with a 5 month old? We're taking a 6 hr flight in a few weeks. Thanks!

Flying with infant

I flew with our son when he was 3 months and again at 6 months. We fed him on take off and landing so his ears weren't effected. I also brought a bunch of toys for him to play with.

Re: Flying with infant

Dd was 8 months when we went to CA last month. She was great on the plane! I gave her her pacifier for takeoff and landing, and had lots of books and favorite toys. Dress her in layers and bring a thin blanket - you never know the temperature on the plane. She had her own seat and car seat, which made a huge difference. Also, know your bill of rights, you can google it. They wanted me to turn her seat forward so the person in front could recline all the way (she could only go like 3/4 of the way). I was very nice to the stewardess, but the bill of rights saved me! I knew to advocate for safety.

we flew when DS was 6 months old ... it was a 12 hour flight (round trip so really two of them). Don't over-stress - it's actually pretty easy at that age because they don't really move or do anything. Bring some toys and pre-made bottles (we had to wash our own bottles in the tiny bathrooms - gross).

Re: Flying with infant

I think that age is easier bc they're not trying to run. LOL!

As others said a bottle going and landing. Also bring some paci's. Remember extra clothes and put the baby in overnight diapers in case you don't get a chance to change him for a while.
Remember layers. Throw on a sweatshirt and then have a onsie or tshirt under (of course depending on where you're flying).

SOme kid shows to keep their attention, rattles, favorite lovey or stuffed animal, etc.

Keep antibactria wipes and wipe some stuff done bc they touch everything.

Re: Flying with infant

I flew 5 hours with my 5 month old son. It was very easy once on board. In the airport I wore hiim in the carrier and put all our bags/gear in the stroller. We gate checked the stroller and car seat; and i wore him on the plane. I EBF so I just nursed him as we were getting ready for take off and he slept for 3 hours (it was a 7am flight so he was very tired to begin with). The last 2 hours of the flight he sat on our laps; played; and nursed again at landing. Hardest part was being constricted to my seat for that time he slept but I dealt with it for a peaceful baby

ETA: Definitely dress baby in layers and bring change of clothes that are nearby in the diaper bag (not burried). I did a quick diaper change at our seats when the passenger next to me got up to use the bathroom (just pee). and bring an extra shirt for yourSELF in case you get throwup or any spills on you.

we just came back from Wisconsin... shes 7 mos. Take off and landing didnt seem to bother her there or back... she slept most of the way home though. Just have enough toys to keep them occupied.

Re: Flying with infant

Buy a new toy or two and bring an extra bottle! Also I would load some cartoon videos on your iPad or DVD player even if he doesn't watch tv yet. It's just a good distraction!
