My DD is 2 and has been around kids her own age since she was 3 months but she doesnt really "play" with them. She just kind of co-exists with them lol. But she loves playing with older kids. She gets along great with my niece who is 6 years older than her. And today at the park, she played with with a girl who is almost 5. She was running, climbing, swinging, talking and eating snack with this girl. They were even holding hands and my DD gave her a hug when we were leaving. I've never seen her act like this with kids her own age. Does anyone else's kid do this too?

Yup... Both my boys were like this. Well, my 2 yr old still is. At that age they parallel play. My 2 yr old loves older kids bc he knows he can get the attention from them. My 4 yr old does play with kids the same age, but still loves to go to the older kids too.

Yes. Dd is 2.5 and plays just fine with others her age at daycare, but outside of that, she gravitates to our older friends' kids.

Always. My DD engages way more with her cousins who are all 2+ years older than her. I feel it is bc the older children know "how" to play and interact with each other where younger children (DD is 22 months) are still learning and exploring these skills.

Yes, my DS is almost 2 and ignores his own friends at the park to follow around elementary aged kids. It's fine, but he has actually been hurt twice because they were playing and ran into him. I figure he'll be smoking by 6. haha just kiddingChat Icon
