Any ideas for how to get my 4 yr old to gain weight?
At my 4 year old's doc appointment, we found out he grew 2 inches last year, but gained NO weight. He's only 30 lbs. He's gained 1 lb in the last 2 months but we have to go back in December for a weight check and I'm sure they're going to be looking for more than a 1 lb. weight gain. What are some healthy fats that I can get him to eat? His favorite snacks are usually fruits and veggies and that's the problem. How can I get him to put on weight? I don't want to start a habit of giving him junk food just to get him to gain weight. Help!

I really don't have any authority on the subject since my son is only 1 but one thought I had is cheese? I don't mean processed cold cut cheese, but rather some nice cheeses like feta, even a good cheddar (my son loves feta and smoked cheddar), fresh mozzerella, etc.? I know nuts have healthy fats - is he allowed nuts? Avocado is also very healthy and contains fats. Since he likes veggies (which is awesome!) maybe he will enjoy avocado? Another idea is whole milk yogurt?

i believe avocado is good and possible a tiny bit of olive oil in his food (but i would check with a doctor on that - i just recall a relative doing that for her dd who wasnt gaining enough weight)

I'm sorry I keep doing this!! I accidentally answered from my business account (I'm a LIF vendor) and I often switch the two by accident. The above answer is from me!

I have tried carnation instant breakfast in his milk and that has helped.
Also peanut butter helped him a lot for lunches...

I sneak fat into my kid's diet- stirring a little coconut oil and butter into oatmeal, or spreading either on toast. Whole milk greek yogurt is good. Avocado if he will eat it (mine loved it as babies, but won't touch it now). Nuts and nut butters. Cheese too! I wouldn't give him flat out junk.

My younger DS is a peanut. I try to give him peanut butter and nuts as snacks, as much cheese as he wants, and I cook all of his veggies in butter or olive oil.

I switched DS back to whole milk from skim, give cheese as snacks, and went back to yo toddler for whole milk yogurt. He eats like a bird these days and is very picky so Im trying to sneak in fat wherever I can too.

Smoothies. Whole milk yogurt and berries. Then add in coconut oil (fattiest in a good way), or peanut butter. Also a handfuls of spinach or avocado. He won't taste the avocado or spinach.
